I found this info on another site I patronize. The cities are assessed in terms of their advanced producer services using a interlocking network model.

Study overview
Chart of world cities

How did your favorite cities rank?

Atlanta is a surprise as Beta+, considering DC is ranked the same; Dallas as Beta is probably right. I feel Houston was ranked a little low as Beta -.

Why is it a surprise? I've always considered Houston on par with Dallas and Atlanta; but never above, like you do.

Atlanta had the olympics, has the worlds busiest airport & is home to major international brands such as Coca Cola (the most recongnizable brand on Earth) and UPS, amongst others. Still surprised?

Yeah you'd think LA/SF would be up there. Caracas over both of them? Really?

Actually, the biggest surprise to me was that Tokyo wasn't Alpha ++ like NYC and London. I've always considered those three to be, "the Big Three."

Yeah this is causing quite a stir on SSP. Not many agree with this list at all. Too many changes in a short amount of time. I really do disagree with LA being a beta city. That is an alpha city and I don't really care to hear their criteria on it.

Exactly, and how could SF not be considered an Alpha city?
