Why such a big discrepancy between TV market and metro size. What is going on here?
I think the real question is who watches regular TV anymore?

Step into the year 2012 & you'll see where all forms of media are available on most smartphones, I-Pads, internet, Playstations, live video streams, satellite radio, & satellite TV.

As for suburban downtowns, Philadelphia doesn't have any. Atleast not major CBD's built like real downtowns. We have downtowns outside DC that give some actual cities downtowns a run for their money. Philadelphia is not on DC's level and that is a fact.
I'm not trynna come at DC, I'm just saying Philly's been a big city much longer, so naturally it will have that stuff, as opposed to DC, that is just now coming into its own. Think about what it was 30 yrs ago, before ww2 it was basically a plantation. From a name recognition standpoint, I will agree that DC is on another level than Philly, but as far as city stuff goes you can't really say that DC is on another level, especially when you take into consideration the built environment; skyscrapers, suspension bridges, elevated and light rail, industrial zones etc.

Well media and DMA, sub DMA is still used for many aspects of advertising.

Even IP and location of a smart phone can dictate content and advertising. There are many many tangible aspects to this.

Even spot and cable are sold based on DMA; the specificty is increasing but dont discount this aspect in terms of how this does impact even those non traditional medias you describe.

Another are that is huge is how it relates to athletic programming etc.

TV contracts and add space

To me DMA is just one more piece to an ever elusive puzzle of how to compare places

Does your city have any Asian TV stations?

Houston has both Chinese & Vietnamese channels.

Dont think so; maybe chinese not totally sure

Though does your DMA have programming in german, itlalian and hebrew?

What is your point? I would think the asian population is larger in Houston; hence why there may be more asian tv

Not sure what that has to do with my original comment though
