What city has the most going on? i.e. companies opening, new jobs, hotels, road widening, condos, interstates/highways, offices, shopping centers, mix-use projects, lifestyle centers, new retail, etc.

What order would you rank them in?

Chattanooga, Hunstville, Greenville, Augusta, Lexington, Savannah, Winston-Salem, Greensboro.

I don't know that I can rank them, but Chattanooga probably will gain the most jobs with the impending arrival of the VW plant.

Huntsville will see more Army base growth and the VERY beginnings of downtown revitalization. Sure things include expansion of Art Museum, renovation of downtown arena, and a mixed-use development downtown.

I am not able to follow Greenville much, but hopefully Magnolia Town Center will get a shot in the arm. The Greenville/Spartanburg metro has exceeded a million, I believe, so that region is really in the midst of evolving from a medium-size city to a large one.

Columbus for sure because of Fort Benning, NCR, Aflac, Kia, etc.

Pretty hard to rank these, but they all have something going on in one form or another. I also know that the recession has put a lot of things on hold for everybody as well which makes ranking these even harder.

Why are these measures of progress? What about mass transit? Trains, buses, subways, etc.

Well, all of those cities are too small for subways and light-rail, but I agree about buses and you could throw in street-car lines also.

Dude, come on. How are you going to compare Norfolk with these cities? It is obviously in a higher tier, and don't use city populations as a basis of comparison because you know that's misleading.

^Not to mention Norfolk was not an option. But I would say hands down its Augusta. How in the world can the other cities compare? Lol.
