London
Berlin
etc

I would say Atlanta is on the level of:

Hamburg
Lyon
Birmingham
Glasgow
Cologne

Totally subjective of course, but I think the lists are close. Whether Atlanta's clump of cities is closer to DC's or Charlotte's is anyone's call.
From that Atlanta list; I've only heard of Glasgow and Birmingham and I wouldn't place DC on the same level as London and Paris as far as recognition.

Ill give it a shot. For name recognition:

I would place DC on the level of:

Berlin
Seoul
Buenos Aires
Amsterdam

I would place Atlanta with:

Helsinki
Bogota
Perth
Dusseldorf

I would place Charlotte:

Belgrade
Maracaibo
Lyon
Adelaide

Just my humble opinion.

Most people in the world simply call it "Washington." I agree it probably doesn't have the overall recognition of London or Paris.

However, it is definitely more talked about than London and Paris in terms of political importance to the world. I've heard people discussing Obama, Bush and Nancy Pelosi in villages of third world countries.

Internationally, people don't discuss events in Berlin, Seoul, Buenos Aries or Amsterdam nearly as regularly as they do Washington politics. It's almost everywhere.

Sounds fine to me; not that big of a difference between my list and yours. DC is on the fringe of the top tier of recognition, and not solidly within it (like NYC and LA would be).

I am also aware of the missionary work in developing countries.I still believe that as a whole there are not many people due to the nature and origin of the religion that know of it.
I agree.

ATLANTA IS AN ORIGINAL!!! It cannot be compared to anywhere else. Elton John and countless other wealthy celebs sought it out and call it home. Affluent Brits and Europeans and others from across oceans seek it out. Many celebs and people with nationally noted last names live here. THERE IS ONLY ONE ATLANTA and we have the world's best skyline... Mountains are an hour north, Atlantic and Gulf beaches are available close enough for weekend trips. International grocers whatever your nationality are abundant. My local market keeps fresh Bassett's All-Sorts...the only ones in the US I have ever bought which were not stale . Oh and I bet when Gone With The Wind III is written Scarlett and Rhett will come home to Atlanta!!!!!

I think Washington is at least as well known as L.A.

Atlanta's like Washington DC without the institutions. Charlotte is like Atlanta without the ambiance.
