Twice the size of the area of LA-Long Beach-Riverside-San Bernardino which is 4,850 sq miles!! and i would not say that 95% of it is next to Albuquerque, it would be more like 80%.
Fair enough. The fact of the matter is I personally include Juarez in EP's metro population, that being said, we pale in comparison!!!

Also if El Paso claims the Las Cruces/ Donna Anna county population into their Metro Population that would take away federal $$ from Las Cruces, so don't count on that happening anytime soon. Why do you think Albuquerque has not claimed Santa Fe County in the Metro population.
The Albuquerque Metro july 2008 sits at 853,775. El Paso Metro july 2008 sits at 744,995....over 100,000 difference. even with the base expansion it will be smaller.....by the way you better hope the new president doesn't change that!!!!
The estimated population in 2020 for Albuquerque is 1,088,913. estimates for El Paso are 880,675.
From 2000-2008 the Albuquerque Metro area grew by 14.3%....The El Paso Metro area grew by 7.86%. From this trend I see the gap widening in the future....as for Packard Place, well we shall see.
Oh by the way Albuquerque & Santa Fe are now connected by a Commuter rail (Rail Runner). which will soon become a true Metro corridor.
Moderator cut: see commentI guess we must have lost population since our 2007 est was 755,085 and did not know that the 2008 estimates had come out, care to provide a link? El Paso County, Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Moderator cut: see comment

This is a good point as well, but you can't deny the fact that over 2 million resident live across the stream from EP.

Nice, did you know that the main developer will be the Hunt Company?? which is an El Paso company and is also developing two major master planned communities in El Paso?

Hunt Communities - Land and Community Development

http://www.huntcompanies.com/

http://www.huntcommunitiesllc.com/ne...il.sstg?id=116

There is another master planned community for the northeast with about 15,000 acres but will have to wait due to the credit crunch.

Link: The fastest growing U.S. cities - Jun. 28, 2007

El Paso is now the 7th fastest growing city with a population of 500,000 or better at 1.9% annually and Albuquerque is in 6th place at 2.1% anually. Again this is done without the bulk of the economic impact mentioned above.
According to this report the Greater El Paso area is projected to reach 1,003,000 by 2010 and it says, "With the
planned expansion of Fort Bliss, El Paso is now projected to outpace the growth of other major Texas metro areas such as Dallas, Houston and San Antonio." http://www.epwu.org/public_info/rfq_ne1006.pdf (broken link)[/SIZE]
