If you think Pittsburgh is the only big city in PA with a bad wrap you are gravely mistaken.
i think it should be "donated"

Sorry it dont work that way....Why do Philly homers have such a problem with with someone getting a little more granular down to specifics in this debate rather than overall generalization of "its bigger so its the better"....Is it maybe the real truth will come out if so.

I love Philly I've stated so, but I can also see the light and will not let my love of a city be blinded by Homer-ism...and before you try to say I'm a Homer, I clearly listed where Pittsburgh falls short to Philly and how it falls short...no one else has done the same....Its just a bunch of Generalizations...

Until you guys can provide SPECIFICS has to how Philly is the better city...The debate continues....anyone can sit here and say "Well Philly's bigger period point blank" and i can challenge that by saying but Philly also has far more corruption, crime, is near bankruptcy, and has more people living in poverty....how does this make it better than Pittsburgh...Pittsburgh got it's casino build where's Philly's still tied up in red tape of a corrupt government.

Sorry if it hurt's Philly Homers but lets be real here put all the cards on the table.
Dude - really you need to stop. People have given specific example, yes some sort bigger, some people like that, some dont. They can choose to live wherever, as you can as well.

I like Pittsburgh, and honestly for it's size think it packs a great punch. I also think on some of the criteria even if you say Pittsburgh has the same types of restaurants, seriously the Philly restaurant is amazing lately, frankly on par with just about any city in the US, seriously, is has made such a differance over the last ten years. Nightlife is better, sorry ok like i said earlier I think Philly edges Pittsburgh on many of the citeria but Pittsburgh rates well in my book on most areas. And i really like the city

I hear you, sometimes I feel like the area much better with Jersey, plus better liquor laws, but many more taxes, yikes

Lets stop blowing smoke kidphilly -

Crime ridden parts of Philly are:

North Philly, South Philly (west of Broad), Greys Ferry, Southwest, West Philly (west of 46th), Manuta, Parts of Overbrook, Frankford, Kensington, Olney, West Oak Lane, Germantown, Lawncrest, Lawndale, Hunting Park, Nicetown, Parts of Bridesburg, Junita Park, Upper Darby....and parts of Mt Airy are starting to goto hell as well.

Like i said you can't blow smoke on me I KNOW PHILADELPHIA! Until recently Cops were getting shot every week. I mean the media didnt lable it Killadelphia for no reason. The city was going insane about the violence, and you had women being raped in Center City couple of times....yes i keep up with what's going on in my former city, just like i keep up with Pittsburgh happenings.

Just to show I'm not bias Pittsburgh compared Crime ridden neighborhoods:

- Northview Heights
- Mt Oliver/St Clair Village
- Homewood
- Hill District
- Wikinsburg
- Beltzhoover
- Larimer
- Garfield

Location:
- Philadelphia has a way more prominent location in the BosWash corridor, very good location.
- Pittsburgh has one of my favorite locations for a land trapped city, in between two US regions and near Appalachia.

Geography:
- Pittsburgh with it's rivers & Hills. Gorgeous!

Size
- Philadelphia definitely. Both city and metropolitan area.

Lifestyle: Subjective
- I honestly would love to live in Pittsburgh, beautiful city, very underrated, great architecture.
- Philadelphia is more for those that enjoy the big city life, the fast paced environment, I can see myself living here for sure.

Safety: Subjective
- Philadelphia has some rough areas, but I'm not one to talk- Chicago does too. But you can find plenty of safe areas in Philly.
- Pittsburgh, normally a very safe city, probably has it's bad areas too.

Less Crime
- Pittsburgh generally is ranked as a pretty safe city.

Walkibility: Either or
- Philadelphia, more walkable than Pittsburgh for sure, very pedestrian friendly compared to many cities.
- Pittsburgh, pretty walkable too.

Skyline:
- Pittsburgh, I actually like this one more, with it's waterfront river style, bridges, and modern looking buildings with the hills in backdrop at times. Gorgeous!
- Philadelphia, this city is tall, and it looks great- but I'm generally not into that style of buildings for the most part. I think the skyline is nice, but it would be cool if they had more glass towers!

Downtown
- Philadelphia, no doubt in my mind
- Pittsburgh, I think its probably decent, not as lively as it can be. Right?

Architecture
- Philadelphia, they've got historic architecture and also great modern architecture.
- Pittsburgh, they're no slouch but they were paired with Philly so you can understand when i say they're no threat.

Food
- Philadelphia, more cosmopolitan flavors, food from around the world in large varieties, I like their food a lot.
- Pittsburgh, well it's a big city you can expect there to be a diversity of food, and they probably have great options, but I'm going to give the nod to Philly because it's far larger with more options.

Restaurants
See above ^^^

Education
- Philadelphia, possibly one of the best in this category
- Pittsburgh, it's no slouch for sure, but once again, it was paired against Philadelphia...

Museums/Art
- Philadelphia, enough said.
- Pittsburgh, it was paired against the wrong hombre for this category.

Festivals
- I actually don't know.

Tourist attractions/landmarks:
Philadelphia wins this one.

Nightlife
- I hear nothing but good about Pittsburgh's, Philadelphia seems to be decent in this category.

Generally nicer/friendlier people
- Never had a problem in Philly before.

Parks
- Philadelphia has some great ones, Pittsburgh does too. I call tie

Diversity (people)
- Definitely Philadelphia

Diversity (neighborhoods)
- I think Philadelphia again

Weather
- I don't know

Nightlife
Wasn't this already asked?

Jobs/Economy
- I think Philadelphia has more options but Pittsburgh is more stable.

Better Reputation
- Uhmmmm..... I don't know how to answer that.

Sports
Oh dear goshhhh why are these so hard? Pittsburgh has some of the greatest teams, Philadelphia has more and more historic wins.

Weather
Okay some of these questions are seriously on repeat now....

Shopping
Philadelphia. But I don't like shopping... so I don't care much.

Transportation
- Philadelphia hands down.

Vibrance
- Philadelphia hands down again

Cost of living
- I think both...

Proximity to other places
I swear... these have got to be on repeat... Philadelphia proximity to other cities, Pittsburgh to different region.

OK - lets get specific How is Philly's nightlife better...both cities have to shut down at 2am...Both cities have underground scenes, both citys have dance clubs and live music, both cities offer fine dining, both cities have good live jazz, both cities offer Fancy and Dive bars..Philly has South Street, Pittsburgh has Carson, Philly has Walnut street, Pittsburgh has Walnut street and southside works... both cities have amazing theater orchestras symphonies (Pittsburgh's world class, dont know about Philly) again Philadelphia is more centralized, Pittsburgh is more spread out amongst its neighborhoods including parts of Downtown. Pittsburgh has a Casino and Riverboat...Philly doesnt have either.... for better gambling Philly can go to AC, Pittsburgh can go to WV....

How is Philadelphia better on the restaurant scene....Both Philly and Pittsburgh offer Fine dining, quick casual, expensive steakhouses and seafood joints, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, japanese, Indian, Thai, mediterranean...I can go on and on.....

tell me how Phildelphias resturant scene is better it is quite nice and extensive but I dont its any better quality than what Pittsburgh can offer...are there more resturants maybe but not by much....Pittsburgh's scene really is flurshing nicely......Now Philly does have Saladworks and Cosi which are not in Pittsburgh, but both are planning expansions to the burgh.....Philadelphia has Dunkin Donuts, Pittsburgh is Starbucks town.

Philadelphia annexed Upper Darby? Since when?

9 of the top 10 Pennsylvania liquor sale revenue generating bars/nightclubs are located in Center City Philadelphia. I can personally get you in 4 dozen after hour clubs in Center City that are open til sunup.

Center City draws from its own metro of 7 M people and also draws in weekend tourists from Dc/Bal/NNJ/ NYC . Its becoming more and more commonplace for NYers to come party in Center City Philly. I ran into a group from Midtown while in Atlantic City last weekend and thats all they wanted to talk about. Center City. Old City/Rittenhouse/South street /Northern Liberties yadda yadda, they just would not shut up about Philadelphia.

Pitt draws from a metro of 2 M. Logic is going to dictate that Philadephia is much more vibrant. Just as Manhattan is more vibrant than Chi or Dc or philly.

Again sheer numbers. More people in Philadlephia which results in greater demand,a wider range, and better quality of restaurant. Just as Pittsburgh is a superior restaurant city to Akron the same can be said for Philadlephia being a superior restaurant city than Pittsburgh.

Compared to Pittsburgh? Absolutely. Pitt wins hands down just on the safety factor alone.

Pitt has the 7th lowest crime rate, Philly, the 28th:

And for it's size, Pitt does quite well with cultural activities, pro sports, restaurants etc. It's the smaller, nicer, safer alternative to philly IMO.
