Philly, As I went there for a school trip, and it was amazing, the best hours ever spent doing something "educational"

And Pittsburgh is experiencing addition by subtraction. The people who are leaving now, whether they're moving away or dying, tend to be less educated. That's how the city can shrink yet become more educated and affluent in the process.

Thank you everyone. I made this poll because I was born in Pennsylvania, (Hershey Area) but moved when i was really young. I have never been back to visit yet, but I want to. I wanted to hear about the two biggest cities in the state. I don't know much about Pittsburgh, and I hear a lot of negative things about Philadelphia, but I also hear good too, like its history, art, and downtown.

So what I gathered from this, is that Pittsburgh is almost like a small Philadelphia? I knew Philadelphia was bigger, but I had no idea how big the difference was. Tell me more about these cities. I am thinking about planning a visit to Pennsylvania soon

Pittsburgh is the perfect-sized city in this country IMO. It doesn't win most-livable city year-in, year-out for nothing.

It has just enough amenities to keep things interesting but it lacks the more unsafe areas and horrible traffic that you get in philly.

Seriously, I'll take the most unsafe parts of pitt over philly any day.

Location - Philly - prefer the NE location plus proximity to the beach
Geography - like the countryside west and north of Philly< Bucks, montco,Chester, and Lancaster further west is some of the prettiest areas in the country, much underrated
Size - Prefer larger city, Philly is nearly 5 times the size of pittsburgh
Lifestyle - Philly, just more to offer
Safety - similar, nod may go to the Burg
Less Crime - see above
Walkibility - Philly
Skyline - Philly
Downtown - Philly
Architecture - Philly
Food - Philly
Restaurants - Philly
Education - Philly
Museums/Art - Philly
Festivals - Hard to say
Tourist attractions/landmarks - Philly
Nightlife - Philly
Generally nicer/friendlier people - Like both but Pittsburgh does have a little more of that Midwestern nicety
Parks - Philly
Diversity (people) - Philly
Diversity (neighborhoods) - Philly
Weather - Today it was 101, overall the winters are little less harsh in philly and summers a bit hotter
Nightlife - Philly
Jobs/Economy - Philly but Pittsburgh has really turned the corner good things ahead
Things to do - Philly
Better Reputation - hmmm depends on who u ask
Sports - Totally biased Philly with Steeler envy
Weather - see above
Shopping - not sure
Transportation - Philly
Vibrance - Philly
Cost of living - Probably the burg
Proximity to other places - Philly

In some ways Pittsburgh has some similarities to Seattle on size etc.
