Because some people - thankfully by far the majority - can separate the wheat from the biblical chaff.
And then there's you and the other fundies - who swallow the whole enchilada because you don't have what it takes to parse allegory from metaphor, to separate truth from myth, sense from nonsense.
No truer words ever posted.
And it's even worse. THEY WON'T STUDY TO SHOW THEMSELVES APPROVED UNTO GOD, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH.
In fact, they not only eschew intellectual study of Scripture, they pull verses out of context, not knowing what they meant then to those who wrote and read them, and use those verses to justify their intellectual laziness.
They don't believe Proverbs 4:7--
"The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding."
They neither have wisdom nor understanding because of wallowing and glorifying ignorance.
Instead they are like the writer of Ecclesiastes who wrote just the opposite:
Quote:
I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.
Ecclesiastes 1:16-18
In other words, they haven't the WISDOM to understand God's situational ethics. "Truth" applies in some situations, but in others NEW "truths" must be discovered. What that means is that everything is not cut and dried--some of it hangs in the air and is subject to the "situation" that then exists.
And if there is anything more unsettling to fearful fundamentalists than uncertainty about any situation, I don't know what it is. Count on all the scared people to vote for someone who seems completely certain (if maniacal) Donnie Trump.
When liberals use the Bible, it's God word. When anyone else uses it, it suddenly becomes "that book" or "your book" or ancient myth or my favorite one, "that's your interpretation".
Stop with the liberal, conservative nonsense.
You either know right from wrong, or you don't.

You keep getting it wrong, jimmie. It has nothing to do with WHO uses the Bible, it is whether or not the verse agrees with or is compatible with the Holy Spirit of agape. THAT is the difference. Jesus taught that God IS agape and unambiguously demonstrated it. Why would He do that if He did NOT want us to use the Holy Spirit of agape that He taught and demonstrated to test the Spirit of everything???

They would be capable, Trout, but they don't try because of the "doctrine of demons" that the Bible is 100% God's word. They fear to trust what God has "written in their hearts" in agape, so they blindly accept everything.

I am sure you misspoke, jimmie. There is nothing to "make up." Jesus described the Holy Spirit in detail so we would recognize its fruits. There is no need to "make up" anything!

To live with uncertainty is to live with faith!
Really? And have YOU studied to show yourself approved? Yeshua we are told, was approved by (via the Father) signs and wonders, and we are told that BELIEVERS have signs and wonders following them. So....what's your story there again? Peace

What are your signs and wonders?
Have you been raising the dead?
But are they not saying the same thing about it being nonsense?
You either know in your heart what is right or wrong, or you don't.
That or we have lost the faculty to follow the conviction of our hearts, which appears to be the case for the fundamentalist.
On a personal note, realizing this for myself was the beginning of the end for the fundamentalist side of me that had kept me captive against my conviction, to the point where i was believing that any conviction i had that was contrary to my beliefs was of the devil, or myself questioning God.

STUDY will never show one to be approved of God. hose words are of MEN.
God has said ALL he desires is MERCY, JUSTICE and HUMILITY.
CHRIST echoed these words in the BEATITUDES.
FOCUS is vital to understanding.
