Why did Jesus go to a Baptist to be Baptized?

A: Because baptism is more than just some symbolic act done by the participant.

Those who reject the truth of what baptism does (un)knowingly is prosecuting the truth.
Through Baptism

[1] we do what God commands in the Great Commission:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the ( the TRIUNE GOD) Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19
[2] Jesus makes the church holy and blameless.
Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27
[3] You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit... which is faith and the forgiveness of sins
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

[4] saves us ... as the water did to Noah and his family
God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—...It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ 1 Peter 3:20-22

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ added thought \\\\\\\\\\\

To be theological correct it's not the water only ... it's water connected with God's Word. If it's was just a symbolic thing, then it would nothing more than bath water.

So your saying no one can receive the Holy Spirit until they have "repented and been baptized"? Am I understanding you correctly? Also would you say that when we receive the Holy Spirit that is evidence we are saved or Have repented and completed all that is necessary for salvation at that point?

As Elijah passed his ministry to Elisha with his mantle; John had to pass his ministry to Jesus.

Thanks Mike (and MikeLee), I was hoping that someone would post a sensible answer on this thread! -- Where in the world do folks get all these strange, speculative opinions? .... I guess that question answers itself: It is from the world ... and NOT from God's Word.

John the Baptist was the son of a Priest of Levi , but when His time came to minister to the Lord , John the Baptist came to understand that the temple was finished and gone into wilderness , where the baptist ministered .... Jesus went to the baptist to be baptized because he was the greatest man in all of Israel where faith through Holy Spirit to bring repentance at a time of apostasy against God , as this man was being lead by Holy Spirit to this calling of a baptist...who ushered in Lord Jesus and His ministry.....See John the Baptist may have not had the time to be a disciple of Jesus , but is in Heaven today , through the blessing of Isaac of the house of Abraham , were people of compassion to the Lord would be collected to Abraham bosom , than to Heaven after the cross of Christ.....

Who baptized John the Baptist?

It's an interesting point to ponder. I just always thought it referred to those who followed the Gospel and Baptized people.
Jews used baptism as a ritual purification, the term "baptism" just wasn't used for it.

This question sounds like a riddle or the opening for a joke.

In reality there is no such thing as a Baptist, a Mormon, an Episcopalian, a Muslim, a Hindi, a Jew, or even an American. Those are all labels and labels are tags we attach to things as we attempt to sort and identify others or ourselves but in the end these labels mean nothing in terms of the reality of Spirit.
