Yes, let's just stop using any "ville" names for neighborhoods because they're utterly ridiculous. Nevermind the fact that the name "andersonville" has roots back to the 19th century. If the official website from the chamber isn't enough to convince anyone, I don't know what is. the best part is reading explanations from loonies who swear anything close to an el line gentrifies and thinking their trashcan of a neighborhood is awesome.

It's actually funny living in Buena Park, because I always forgot just how CLOSE that area is to Wrigley until I moved there. I'm on Sheridan just north of Irving Park, and I can easily walk to Wrigley in under 10 minutes. It's a little over 3/8 of a mile.

Not that I'd ever call the area Wrigleyville though.

Aw shucks, we dont have be sour grapes.
villes are okay in small doses.

Home this site smacks of business/self promotion.

this website is for tourists.

At best andersonville is just as catchy as wrigleyville and just as meaningful.
Both are subsets of neighborhoods at best. Both results of local boosterism and real estate people. Overall both make me cringe. Everyone is different ofcourse.

I'm the one who bumped this thread and it set off the somewhat odd what is or isn't andersonville discussion. Anyways, i've rented in the margate park area of Uptown for a few years now (after reading thread after thread telling me what a bad decision it was) and have found it an incredibly tame and convenient area to live in. That said I don't have any dillusions about the crap at the heart of the neighborhood (Lawrence/Sheridan, Wilson/Sheridan).

The area i'm targeting will be Margate Park and the far southeast corner of Edgewater around Berwyn. The proximity to Andersonville, lake and express buses, combined with affordable housing stock works for me.

Ironically, that can be said for multiple, if not most areas of "Uptown". I live in Buena Park and was initially nervous to move to "Uptown", but honestly Buena Park has been nothing but interesting, diverse, an amazing housing stock, quiet at night, very safe and a great access to the lakefront and parks.

Margate Park, Buena Park, most streets in Sheridan Park, "Andersonville Terrace" (hadn't heard of that one).........like you said if you're not in the thick of the crazy in the area of Racine to Clarendon, Lawrence to Montrose - a fraction of the neighborhood - Uptown is extremely beautiful, calm and fulfilling.

I know of the term Argyle Park from this map and other sources, but to be honest with you I have never heard anyone use the term verbally.

I think this map is decently old (but obviously not older than Truman College.)
I do wonder what "Truman Square" was called before the college was there. I am willing to bet just plain old Uptown.

I only use the term "Wrigleyville bars", and it pertains to Clark Street from Waveland to Roscoe and nothing else. Only cause it's easier than saying "the bars on Clark by Wrigley".

Same with things like "Lakeview East", etc. I will say Boystown, mostly as a reference to Halsted from Addison to Belmont.
