Just by chance I came across this story today...

"...a lot of Chicagoans will be driving by the old Viceroy Hotel, 1519 W. Warren, and wondering what will happen with the property...

...Heartland Housing Inc., a respected provider of affordable housing, has filed a zoning request to turn the old transient hotel into 90 units of affordable living...

...Each unit would get a full kitchen and bath instead of the common bathrooms from when the place qualified as a flophouse..."

That bad? Wow. I've read that it was up and coming and also that it was pretty bad. I guess this isn't the place for me.

I hope you don't make financial decisions based on the opinions of anonymous online posters. For what it's worth here is a link with a street view. As you can tell it's a pretty rough area. On Division, you'll probably feel safer east of California

And not the gentrifying part either. Nor particularly close to it.

Take this study for what it is worth...I do not think this area really is the worst in the country, but the study does point what direction the neighborhood points that is for sure.

Gee, what a shock, the area around EGP is a complete poop hole.

the study is a joke. The area is largely industrial with every few residents, mainly warehouses and wholesalers. Anyone who thinks this area is more dangerous than Englewood or Cicero and Madison knows nothing about Chicago.

"More hip & trendy than 88% of U.S. neighborhoods."

This statement blows away the credibility of the info right away.
