Was listening to both CNN and fox. Chicago pd have been put on alert after the GJ verdict tonight. What areas are at risk for potential trouble you think? If it's down town or in the neiborhoods.

So far so good. People marched from Bronzeville to the north end of the Loop and were prevented by police from crossing over into River North. Seems the worst offense they committed along the way was to kack up traffic on LSD for a while. After a while they lost interest in trying to get to River North and have largely dispersed. We'll see what happens tomorrow. There will obviously be more disruption to peoples' daily routines as they try to go about their business in the Loop but I see no reason to expect anything more than that. No reports of idiocy in da 'hood either.

Ferguson, on the other hand, is a different story. Mooks.

Funny picture above, as the angle and crop make the crowd look large. But when the news outlets showed the overhead view, it was only a couple hundred people barely filling one intersection. I think there were bigger protests about red light cameras.

How many times have cops shot unarmed youth in Chicago without similar protests? It happens here all of the time. I'm not sure what made Ferguson different this time around. But it does seem to me that the police are less heavy-handed under Gary McCarthy than they have been in the past. People hated J-Fed, but seem to love McCarthy, even though both have had some positive change on the culture of CPD. I just hope we don't see something like Ferguson from one of our suburban police departments. It could easily happen in Hillside or Broadview.

I know there's deep racial divide amongst many, but Ill tell you what... If I was confronted with the evidence that the protesters and jury were given, I would simply admit defeat and call it a day, no matter how much angst I might have. Theres absolutely no reason to continue with the protests and/or rioting. Simply no reason whatsoever. He robbed a store, rushed a cop, tried to get Wilson's gun, and got shot. You live by the sword, you die by the sword, sadly.

There is more to it than that steve-o.

There is a severe need for change in how law enforcement interacts with the community. I personally accept the no bill based on evidence. Notice the diversity of protesters. This is far bigger than Michael Brown or Ferguson. This is a movement that has captured the attention of the world.

So there is no charge for D. Wilson but necessary change is going to come. Protests (not riots) are needed along with organized and a progressive plan to implement change. This is not my side wins my side looses type of thing. I'm sorry the media both social and news has portrayed this situation and left people divided who shouldn't be divided.

I feel like police around the country have become too trigger happy in the name of self defense. We need to get away from this "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality and develop better methods for restraining unarmed arrestees that don't involve firearms.

But as the laws are written today, most prosecutors and Grand Juries will side with the police officer in these types of situations. You would really need a mountain of evidence to convict a police officer of an unlawful death while they were on duty.
