(CNN) -- Police departments in Chicago and New York are trading barbs after a federal judge ruled that New York City's stop-and-frisk policy was unconstitutional.

"Welcome to Chicago," a Bronx police officer told the New York Post after the ruling, insinuating that crime rates in New York would approach those of the embattled Midwestern city as a result of the ruling, which mandated changes to stop-and-frisk.

Officials in Chicago responded by defending their city's reputation and taking a shot at New York's recent judicial defeat.

"We had significantly less crime, significantly fewer shootings and fewer murders of any year since 1965 without imposing on the right of our residents," said Adam Collins, the spokesman for the Chicago Police Department. "We don't engage in racial profiling."

A judge ruled Monday that the NYPD's stop-and-frisk program was unconstitutional and it had been disproportionately used on black and Hispanic citizens.

Chicago has its own controversial law enforcement policy called "contact cards." Under the contact card policy, police can stop individuals and demand information such as name, phone number and the disclosure of any tattoos. However, under the policy, officers do not make physical contact with the individual in question.

Despite the controversies, both cities have seen significant reduction in crime. In 2013, Chicago became the center of a national discussion on hand gun violence when there were more than 500 killings in the city.

I get tired of the Chicago crime bashing by other places that don't understand the dynamics of Chicago.

Otoh, CPD has their nerve bashing another police departments on the issue of racial profiling.

An Italian street gang was recently caught wilding in Grant Park.

Police intervened in time to prevent them having a confrontation with this gang of unemployed Swiss youths who were rowdily drinking schnapps spiked Ovaltine and throwing giant unsphoonant stones near the bandshell.

Chicago is getting extra unwanted attention because Obama's approval is under water so conservatives (even though CNN is generally liberal) will take any opportunity to bash it. NRA folks also like to use the city as an example of how gun laws don't work (even though guns used here are mostly all from straw purchases in more lenient states). It is exactly like the Texas bashing that was consistently going on during the Bush presidency by liberals. Chicagoans know that at least 80% of the city's homicide victims are involved in the drug business. City residents also know that the city is significantly safer than the 80s, 90s, early 00s. Anyways, the main reason why NYC is so much safer is that the city has become so expensive that only the rich can afford to live there. Generally speaking, wealthy folks don't need to sell drugs on street corners and protect those street corners with handguns and the constant threat of violence. So to sum up..........WHO CARES WHAT A NEW YORKER THINKS????????

A swiss gang of that nature certainly would scare the crap out me.

That italian gang may be from the latter years of glory where most members were actually barbarians and not particularly commited to the family.

This is a decent point. Obama's approval rating is not nearly as low as Bush's reached (41% vs. 25%), but it's trending down and might get there yet. I bet he doesn't get as low as Congress (14%), though.

I now return you to bizarre pictures of ancient European battle reenactors.
