The inner city is dominated by McDonalds and Popeyes-really fast and bad for you fast food. No market there for ''upscale'' places like Culvers, Red Robins; if there was a market for it, these businesses would be there. Sit-down restaurants with waiters/waitresses? - not happening in the inner city.

Perhaps. It's just interesting, since one of the reasons people pay a premium to live in a place like Wicker Park is the easy access to much better establishments than the ones he drives to the burbs for.

Any other nice restaurants not in the city but in the suburbs?

Joe's Crab Shack closed down their only city location maybe in 2009?
Steak'n Shake a nice restaurant? LOL!!! Definition of nice restaurant is different, that's why you see few exburb style chains in the City.

I don't understand this post. Are you suggesting Chciago doesn't have upscale sit-down restaurants? That makes about zero sense.

Also, Culver's doesn't have waiters and waitresses.

Yeah, there's really just nowhere to sit down for food in Chicago. Nowhere at all. Certainly nothing as nice as Culvers.

Culvers is pretty good. And it's easy to find bad food in the city so don't give me that business that certain chains don't open in the city because the food here is so much better. And there are plenty of chains doing well in the city anyway: McDonalds, Burger King, Panera, Starbucks, Potbelly, Subway, Dunkin Donuts and others.

I don't know why certain chains have stayed out of the city but I doubt it's because they can't compete.

The post referred to Inner City Chicago aka the 'hood. Then Culvers should be in the 'hood unless it is too pricey (not familiar with Culvers).

Geez, I even referred to the Inner City in my response and yet somehow folks translate this to mean River North etc...

I think you're the one who doesn't know what "inner city" is and what Jesse was saying.
