Let me be a bit more accurate... (Black Chicagoans) do sound southern and im not saying they sound like their straight outta Jackson, MS bro but you can easily hear it their speech On another note when i visit my family in Memphis I heard a lot of similarities and again yall (THATS NOT A BAD THING)

to be fair, he's speaking of a specific subset of the black community he visits here. i think it's entirely possible that the ones he's referencing have adopted such an affectation due to their affinity to the southern black culture.

you see it with some country white people up here as well. more than once when i've been traveling through MI/WI/IN i've been addressed by waitstaff with strong fake southern accents. i've asked and sure enough, they're yankees but love them some toby keith, tractor pulls, etc. and decided that's how they should talk in spite of living 500 miles north of the mason-dixon line.

I grew up in near the SW side and when I get really excited (yelling) this is how I start to sound.
