Most people in Chicago's accents aren't even close to the deep south. You need your ears checked.

Eh, not everyone talks like that I've heard...I hear some differences between deep south and up here with that even.

well, you do know that a NOLA accent is surprisingly and inexplicably similar to a Brooklyn accent. seriously it is one of the great dialectical mysteries of America.

You didn't specify black Chicago, but everyone kinda knows that's what you're talking about, since it's the only way your statement would make any sense. Anyway, this phenomenon is not unique to Chicago. America's black communities generally have Southern roots in the not-too-distant past, and it shows, in many different ways.
