I'm sorry to hear that, but it's your loss, and my gain as my rent stays low due to irrational fear. I've never heard a gunshot here. If and when I do, I'll realize it's something I could hear anywhere in the city, and much more in many other neighborhoods than here.

Wow. I wasn't in town last night, but now I'll have to look. If true, this is easily a record for the last few years.

Can you point us to a source? A google news search of the past 24 hours gives me a story about hipsters forgoing cars for bicycles, another about a new student dorm, and one about the White Sox. This is consistent with the Pilsen I've known recently.

Here's the Tribune's story on the shootings in Chicago last night and this morning. None of them are anywhere near Pilsen.

Shootings injure 8 on South, West sides - chicagotribune.com

If you can't provide a legitimate source contradicting this, I'm going to have to assume you're making things up.

Cullerton and wood is a borderline for 2 gangs 1 gang on 1 side of cullerton and the other gang on the other side but they don't fight like crazy but do expect to hear shootings from time to time other then that is great

Are the Hispanic gangs fighting the hipsters over coffee shop turf?

The Jumping Bean, Efebinas, and Kristoffer's are frequented by Hispanics and hipsters (and Hispanic hipsters!) who engage in such scary gang-related activities as drinking coffee, eating food, typing on laptop computers, and talking to each other. I've never witnessed shootings at any of them, but I'm sure it's just because I've been lucky.

It's pretty scary here in Pilsen, let me tell you. It's only a matter of time before there's a Starbucks, and that's when the turf wars really get going.

Chicago's pattern of gang violence does not seem to involve as many traditional Hispanic gangs as in towns like LA. While Pilsen is not one of my favorite neighborhoods the relative amount of violence is well below that of lower income areas further south.

The correlation between households headed by employed men and relative household income tends to make gangs less of option for the youth of Pilsen vs traditional African American gangs that prey on youth from fatherless homes...

Don't get worried about Starbuck's. If you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Just be careful if a Caribou Coffee tries to move in on Starbuck's turf. Then you may get caught in the crossfire.

Never seen fully complete again, you mean. You could find it in pieces at the "Swap-O-Rama" Flea Market on Ashland - go around the places where you see the car parts and speakers sold. Look to see if you recognize anything
