Ok first off I'd like to say I've used this site to find a lot of the information I already have but still needing some more!

We are from SEMO and are looking to get out of "life as we know it" and Chattanooga is FIRST on our list!

We have 2 girls ages 2 and 6mths so daycare/preschools/schools are very important, as well as "Safe" parts of town to live and friendly neighborhoods.
We're looking to rent for the first 6-12mths to get a feel of the town before we buy.

I've been to chattanooga before but when I was younger so I only really remember how beautiful it is there (that's one of the reason's why we want to move there)

If anyone that lives there could please help me out with some information, I want straight honest answers!! Basically I need to know whats all good whats all bad, what are some good places to live, rent (about how much is it for 3bdrm/1-2 bath with a decent size yard) and schools. any extra information/personal opinions is greatly appreciated.

oh yah and wed be moving around the middle/end of april 2011

I've worked in SEMO, so I'm familiar with the layout that way. So that said, are you wanting to live in Chattanooga city, or just in the general area, say within 30 minutes? That will make a big difference in the schools and neighborhoods that are available to you.

Default up for anything.

honestly we're just up for anything.

here's a little info...

my husband currently works at a car factory, he's WANTING to go back in to resturant management(mainly fast food, as he has many years experience as assistant manager and gm) but working at the VW plant or any other plant around there is still an option.

his "ideal" place to live would be out of the city where it's safe for our girls to play outside (with us with them of course) but not have to worry about cars flying by and high traffic streets but also not more then 20-30mins away from his work.

not having a job yet makes it kind of hard to get specifics i understand but if we do decide to move there we will be comming and spending a week to look for houses to rent and jobs.

really just right now i'm trying to get an idea of; is this where we want to move? it is number 1 on our list of a total of 4 cities (chattanooga, tn; louisville, ky; pittsburgh, pa; witchita falls, tx.)

this move is basically just to get us somewhere new and start a new chapter in our lives.. we're still young (i'm 21 he's 25) so it's the right time to go out and find what we're looking for but also make sure our girls are in a safe enviroment. so really just any information that i can get and compare to the other cities to finally narrow our list down to where we want to move to.

Well any of the outlying areas around Chattanooga are probably what you're looking for. Soddy-Daisy, Sale Creek, Ootlewah and Birchwood are on the north end, and Ft. Oglethorpe, Trenton and Ringgold are in Georgia. Of course, in Georgia, you have to pay income tax, so I'd stick to Tennessee. All the places listed are both suburban and rural.

I looked up your location, and I've been to Sikeston, MO when I was working at AECI's New Madrid plant, and most of the places I've listed would be similar in size to Sikeston, except they are all within 30 minutes of downtown Chattanooga. The schools in all those areas are pretty good, and they are all typical suburban/rural stuff with minimal crime. Depending on exactly where you chose to live, rent for a 3br/1-2 bath house would probably range anywhere from $750-$1500/month, just depends on the neighborhood, but Ootlewah is notoriously expensive and high-end.

Usually winters are fairly mild. Some snow, but it usually melts very quickly. Last year was a bit unusual. It was very, very cold (sometimes in the single digits), and there were several snows that stuck. I think last winter was a bit unusual all over the country, though.

Of course, the mountains see more snowfall and cooler temperatures than we do in the valley.

We are also looking at Chattanooga. We are looking at North Shore, great school, a little pricey, but its worth it.
