We are seriously considering moving from Cincinnati to Charlotte this upcoming year. We have a 3 and 5 year old so we are looking at the best public elementary schools. We have heard Cabarrus County (Concord) had great schools. Is this true or are we missing something? Where should we be looking? We will be meeting with a relocation agent in Charlotte in a couple weeks looking at housing so any help/advise from locals would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Cheers.

I am not a local, but when we were first considering relocating to NC, one of the best tools we used was removed
It was one of the best websites about the schools districts that we found. Not only can you find out about the school test scores, but also the student/teacher ratio, the demographics, % on free lunch, etc.
Knowing this info can help you determine what type of area you are considering, the divesity of the neighborhood, etc.
For us, this tool came in very handy, Good Luck!!!!!

It probably was greatschool dot net - they seem to keep removing that link for some reason. It is a good site.

Default Cabarrus

We're homeschoolers, but I have heard from many people that Cabarrus is the very best. Steer clear of Meck. schools for sure.

I too have heard great things about Cabarrus. As far as Meck in concerned, I've heard that overall that school district has serious problems, but that you can find some good schools, particularly in south Charlotte (Providence area, Matthews) Have also heard that schools in Mint Hill are good. Please let me know if you think I'm wrong ....

Also, I've heard alot about Birkdale. What is that?? Is it an area? What schools are in that neighborhood? Thanks.

It's still CMS territory. Not worth it if you have kids. North Mecklenburg schools are the most overcrowded in the district. Gangs showing their ugly head in the middle schools and high schools. But if you ask CMS they'll say "Nooooo. There aren't any gangs. That shool is just ummm... diverse, ya thats it diverse."

Tried it and it no longer exists. Just sponsored links under the heading "related to greatschools dot net"
