I lived in NY, where you can almost touch a train if you stick your hand out the window. I also lived in Miami, where all you hear is loud Cubans talking about politics and cars beaping there horns because nobody can drive. If you hear a plane just pop in your favorite CD, turn up your radio and be happy to live in such a welcoming, friendly and growing city.
Hey buddy, us Cubans were not the only loud ones in Miami??!

When I lived in NOVA we would go to the park near Ronald Reagan National Airport and depending on the day the planes would be taking off or landing right over your head. The park was at the end of the run way. That was awesome and cheap fun.

I used to hang out there all the time. I know they started closing it off at night after 9/11. Not sure if it is now permanently closed.

They reopened it because I moved up there the summer before 9/11 and I started going there the following summer.

Default Charlotte Airport Overlook

Our airport has an awesome overlook, rated one of the best in the country. Go up Old Dowd Road and it will be to your right, you can't miss it.

Charlotte Douglas Airport Overlook - Steele Creek - Charlotte, NC

not sure where berewick is, but the noise is over here and it is terrible
I have a client who read this thread -- she is concerned about noise in Waxhaw. I live in Hunter Oaks (which is in the Marvin area) and have noticed no increase in noise since new runway has opened. Has anyone else in Union County experienced an increase in noise? If so, I would truly appreciate if you would let me know where you live in the county. TIA!

Waxhaw is ~ 15 nm southeast of CLT.

On approach from the south, aircraft will be at about 5000 to 6000 ft anywhere near Waxhaw. Not very much to hear.

Patterns for take offs to the south can vary, but again, at 15 nm from the airport, aircraft are going to be up at ~ 3000 ft or more. A bit of noise, maybe, since the engines are spooled up, but I guess it's a matter of how much is too much, based on your clients requirements. Regardless, I willing to wager that noise from the homes AC units will be louder that any aircraft noise.

Personally, I wouldn't notice, but on this forum, almost everything seems to be a quality of life issue. Have your client spend some time in the area to get a feel for what's going on overhead. Also note that the referenced post was from a "one timer"....

just wondering with the new runway in use in Charlotte, how many people are getting much more noise from the planes. it has been bad in the Rock Hill SC area!

They changed the arrival corridors and departure routes to accommodate the new runway and flow.
