I guess 4 runways isnt enough. Those who are complaining about the noise from the latest runway are in for a rude awakening or should I say a loud awakening with another Runway. I can assume it will be built beside the one they finish a few years ago.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport said Monday it plans to build a fifth runway with the capability of serving airplanes taking off deep into Europe or the Pacific rim. An environmental-impact study for the $160 million addition will begin next year, and construction could start as soon as 2014

Nice. The article was very enlightening on future projects.

We are very fortunate to have Charlotte Douglas Airport.

Sweet. I just hope the price of parking doesn't go up significantly.

As a frequent business traveler - I LOVE this airport. I spend time in a lot of airports around the country, and very few of them operate as smoothly and as consistently as Charlotte Douglas. From the long-term parking which is safe, secure and relatively cheap, to the direct flights, it really is a pleasure. Nothing can make air travel completely hassle free, but all things considered, this is the closest I have found.

I agree. I like Charlotte Douglas airport better than a lot of others I have been to! I'm happy to hear about another runway!

This new runway will require the destruction of the airport overlook - one of my favorite places in Charlotte. I hope they will be able to relocate it somewhere else.

You must not be the one footing the bill on your direct flights
$635 from CLT to Orlando was my latest jaw-dropper.

That was what I was thinking because the latest runway runs parrallel to 485. Maybe somewhere off West Blvd or York Mount Rd but lots of trees in the area. I have afeeling it will be a by gone though.

TIL (today I learned) Charlotte has an airport overlook! I will have to make sure we get out there with a picnic lunch soon... Can't believe I didn't know about it.

No - thankfully it is work that pays, but I have been able to find good deals, it is just hit or miss and they fluctuate greatly!

We have people in our office who booked a US Air flight to the same destination we were traveling to and our tickets were $335 R/T and they paid $775 R/T. Same flight but they booked about 4 days after we did.

Airlines themselves are enough to drive you crazy, which makes me appreciate the airport portion of my trip at CLT even more.
