Of course, the OP may be very innovative and be able to get a lot of work off small jobs. A good carpenter willing to make a price on a start to finish on a home improvement project might be able to stay pretty busy.
There are loads of forclosures out here. That's why I suggested that he bring photos of his work & contact realtors.
Speaking of foreclosures, I'm off to mine. I'll check back later.
I suspect that it's a bit different out here, but the same basic theme. You have to be creative to get work.
I saw on CNN last night that they said the last thing you should do when you can't find work is move to a new city. The best way to get a job (in today's environment) is to network with people you know. Moving to a new city puts you at a huge disadvantage.
Also, wasn't there an article a few weeks ago that said a lot of the rust-belt cities had lower unemployment than the sun-belt cities. It's up to you but I would stay put until Charlotte's economic environment turns around.
Home Depot pays better than Lowe's. Just thought I would throw that one in here since there was a commit about those retail stores. I have worked at both places.
Lots of people are moving. We moved took a while to get the better jobs but with the cheap cost of living it was not so bad. The area is great but with the economy getting work might be a bit more difficult.
