I recently took a job in Charlotte and will move from Ohio sometime between May 28-May 30. I'm extremely active and also enjoy going out for beers on weekends. What is the best area for someone like me to live??? It looks like Dilworth is the spot for a single guy like me, but I was wondering what other areas are decent to look at also. I am looking for something in the $750-$850 range for a 1 bdrm. Thanks in advance!

Price range could be tough but if you work in Uptown or points south I would try:

Uptown
South End
Dilworth
Elizabeth/Plaza Midwood
NoDa

You should find a lot of single young people in these areas. Have fun and good luck!

Thanks! I will be working near uptown. I think I found a place for $850 in Dilworth. It is small but should work for what I'm looking for.

i'm from Ohio too! if you went to one of the bigger schools up there, i know the alumni chapters are pretty active here.

i would look in South End with easy access to the light rail. that'll make getting to and from work a lot easier. and South End is right there by Dilworth so you can really enjoy both neighborhoods easily.

Oooh, where, I'm making the move too and looking @ housing now but am getting sort of confused. I haven't seen ANYTHING in that price range. My limit is probably between 1200-1400... but if I could do 850... that's less than I've paid in years... would be awesome to have that much flexibility with my budget.

You are going to get what you pay for....look on craigslist for apartments and you will probably find many in that price range, especially if you are just looking for a 1 bedroom. Keep in mind, at $1200-1400 you are going to get hard wood floors, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, construction within the last 5 years, etc. At $850, you are going to get carpet, plain appliances, regular countertops, older construction, etc.... Also, the possibility exists that a a 26 year old male would be looking for a different type of place than a 30 year old female...just a hunch though...

So I would suggest you list what you want in your apartment/condo, and what you don't want. That list will drive how much you will ultimately spend.
