My kids really want to go to the speedway this year. We've never been, but I know it gets very crowded and traffic is a nightmare. What is the best way to approach it? Should we go very, very early and just wait until it opens? If so, what time?
Someone told me they just park somewhere off-site and walk through. I didn't get to find out where they park. Is there a walkable place to park off-site earlier in the afternoon and eat beforehand to kill time? I am only coming up with restaurants 2-3 miles away....maybe there is someplace to park in between?
What options are there? As you can see, I know NOTHING about it. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
I wouldn't want to walk from outside of the speedway then through the displays, especially with kids in the cold. Pack some munchies and hot chocolate and make an evening of it.
We could do that, but I still need to know what time to show up. I've heard it gets so crowded and backed-up, sometimes they turn cars away. I also see there is a restaurant at the speedway. Maybe that is an option.

Robin, is McAdenville easy to access in and out?
It does get pretty busy and you may wait on the highway to exit...but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!!
I haven't been to the Speedway Lights in a few years, but we just got there when it started getting dark -5:30 to 6:00 maybe. And do check out the link posted - it's not free - and once you get in there, a lot of the activities are at an additional cost. When we went, we went with the intention of spending whatever money we felt like - so we ponied up (pun intended) for the horse-drawn carriage ride. The highlight is actually when you leave - there are 2 lanes - slow or fast - and you choose which. Slow is low on the track and fast is on the banked part - you have about a half a lap to go as fast as you can get your car to go. We didn't know about that, but did what we could in the mini-van. If we ever decide to go back - we're going in the 72 Chevelle with the 454 big block engine. :-)

Thanks! I did check out the cost. $20 just to get in when the Christmas Village is open. How do you do the activities? Just get out of your car? I guess I just can't picture it. Sounds like we should just go early and not worry about eating in the restaurant. I was thinking about making reservations at the Speedway Club but that sounds like it would hinder our time.
