have compassion here--i bet she hurts cause of the remberance of chaz as her baby girl, plus her fears over whether her child's doing this is for the best in the long run, couple this with the did i screw up as a parent guilt, the relentless media,my compassion goes out to both of them
All of that is swirling in Cher's head....believe it.
when there is a little more compassion and a lot more tolerance and acceptance there will be a lot less suicides. Those born into the confused transgender world didn't ask for it and don't know what's wrong for a very long time. Sometimes never until taking their own lives seems the only option. Chaz is reaching out to support that community and hopefully others are or will soon do so.
I agree! Suicide are high in the transgendered community...I surely hope they find comfort and acceptance as time goes on. A transgendered individual may be conflicted on gender identity but they are still human.
The only odd part for me is the girlfriend.
They were lesbians because each preferred females.
Now Chaz is a male.
Why would his girlfriend of (what 7 years?) still be attracted to him?
I wouldn't still be attracted to a long term boyfriend if he had a sex change.
Zimbochick, don't think anyone is being immature and or nasty. Our culture is WAY too sensitive we can't say things the way we see it. Why does everyone have to agree on a certain lifestyle choices? We should all be respectful to others but be able to disagree with beliefs and lifestyle choices too.

Of course people should be able to say whatever they want. It doesn't mean that what they say is at all respectful, or should be tolerated without comment. Do people actually imagine for a minute that someone would choose to through this? Of course not, it is exceedingly stressful, painful, and very isolating. I refuse to give people a pass when they think it's okay to point and laugh at those that are different from us. You can do it, but it's not okay.
When I first read about Chaz's becoming a man, I had pretty much the same reaction that many here have had. I figured it was a response to her mother's lifestyle. But, the more I've read and especially after seeing the documentary, I truly feel empathy for her. She seems so content now. How can anyone deny her that happiness?
