Since you claim to be a "student of history" it might help if you can cite examples of where Gavin Newsom is "Marxist-Leninist." Mentioning Alan Keyes as your source of information would cause an eruption of laughs\ mockery in any history class [so I advise you to avoid using a Republican loon unless you don't care if you fail or not

Clearly you would be better off avoiding San Francisco or even California, for that matter & moving to the South were your kind of American is wholly accepted as the norm = ignorant.

Congratulations! You have just managed to insult and minimize a very large portion of this country. Having lived in five southern states, six if you count Texas, and three of them more than once, I can tell you from first-hand experience that your description is wholly inaccurate and makes the pejorative you used apply far more to you than to them.

On the other hand, we're moving back to that region in a few months and I would much rather be considered an ignorant Ozarks, hillbilly good ol' boy than an elitist, far-left-leaning, out of touch with reality, anti-American, west coast snob.

Now that I've just given you a taste of your own treatment, how about you reel-in the insults? They're not necessary, unattractive and counter-productive to getting your message across.

Curmudgeon, what's wrong with lively debate? BTW, Missouri is not considered a Southern state. Insults aside, the reason I mention the South is that things like flags [ie. "Really expected to see lots of hammer and sickle banners fluttering" per BlackShoe]. A "simple" understanding of a very complex state like California can not be "dumbed down" to making accusations of San Francisco as "anti-American." I strongly feel that, on the contrary, San Francisco & California are profoundly more "pro-American" in our stance on intelligent applications to difficult issues. For example, if the federal government can not or will not control the flow over the border with Mexico why blame cities like San Francisco & Los Angeles for being concerned about the well-being of every person? To do so means making an attempt to solving problems rather than emotional reactions [common to the Republican-type mentality].

I know you don't consider Alan Keyes as a good example for Californians. He still condemns his own daughter for being a lesbian

When I made my remarks,I expected a nasty response from the Looney Left, and I was not disappointed.Mr. Newsom represents the poster boy for what is called "San Francisco Values"Nancy Pelosi is the poster girl. This is a term of utter contempt directed at those so called "Secular Progressives" on the far Left by those of us on the Right. They are anti just about everthing that made America a great nation.Liberalism took a sharp left turn not that awfully long ago in America. This may shock and amuse many, but traditional or classical Liberalism had many of the same beliefs of todays so called NeoCons. However, many Leftists adoped Socialist, and yes,Marxist ideology. One of Lenins more famous quotes was "Socialisms goal is Communism"One good idea from this forum however;my interntion is to leave California. While there are some fine folks in the South, parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies are quite appealing.

You have every right to post whatever you want but using nothing more than Republican\ Fox News clichés shows your unwillingness to back-up your statements with facts. That's why I think living in California is difficult for you. Has anyone you voted for ever won? You are not part of the California mainstream & are doomed to disappointment if you remain here. Your choice. Only expect to be challenged when you make unsubstantiated & rather embarrassing statements.

A particularly vicious and misinformed attitude. The vitriol and venom coming from the left against anyone who deviates the slightest from a PC view of things never ceases to amaze me. I don't think the most rigid enforcers of Marxist philosophy could match some of you for zealousness. Also, after reading this thread the few remaining rays of hope I had for the once might Golden State have vanished. Enjoy your utopian future and of course lots of laughs with Gavin as your new governor.

Having read some of your other posts, clearly you are unhappy with Democrats\ universal health care\ etc. You can vent your anger for the rest of your life or leave California for a state more suited to your liking. But, as you painfully know, you are a distinct minority here that only continues to shrink. If you can accept that then fine. But a state like Texas\ Mississippi, etc certainly is more in line with your political philosophy [GOP = "The Party of the South"].

Nothing is wrong with lively debate but it needn't nor should it become personalized. It should be a conversation as opposed to a confrontation.

RE: MO, the southern half of the state where we'll be living supported the Confederacy and is somewhat more southern than mid-western. After all, the Ozarks are also comprised of the nothern portion of Arkansas which is decidedly southern.

No! I do not consider Alan Keyes a prime example to be followed anymore than I consider any radical on either side of the fence to be fit for leadership. One of my own daughters "came out" to me last year at age 23. She was extremely nervous knowing I tend to be rather conservative on some issues althougth I'm actually quite moderate socially. However,I am also Catholic. My response to her announcement surprised and pleased her. I simply and quietly said, "It is what it is. You're my daughter and I love you."

Before you ask, I did NOT vote for Proposition 8, nor did I vote against it.

I am Catholic also & listen to what the church has to say but also make decisions\ voting independent of what Cardinal Mahony preaches. I agree with the church on caring for the poor [including immigrants] but reject the teachings on sexuality. Ironically, if California is more "socialist" than other states it may have something to do with the influence of the Catholic church [who view capitalism with much criticism].

To suggest that someone from the South is "ignorant" is, in-fact, untrue since nearly all the large cities in the South vote Democratic. But to assert that the Republican party panders to the uneducated is true.

California often leads the nation [ie. environmental regulations - alternative fuels\ stem cell research\ tolerance of life-styles\ pro-labor\ creativity, etc.]. Some people in other states view us narrowly & seem to rejoice over California's problems. Some living in the state despise our progressive thinking & call us "communists" or "anti-American" yet greatly benefit in ways they don't even know until they leave California.

Obviously, you are hurt by my statements regarding the South & I apologize to you, Curmudgeon, but am puzzled that you don't confront the people I am challenging unless you agree with them [minus insults].

Default ???

The Republican party panders to the uneducated? But it is the Democrats that have a lock on votes from minorities, the working class, union members, etc. The Dems have always accused the Repubs of being elitist.Have I missed sonething? The Republican Party and Fox news?Am fed up with politicians from both parties, was cricical of many of Bushes policies.Just a bit less fed up with the Republicans.Do like Fox News, one of few places not controled by the Leftwing Media. The Libs get their take on things from Bill Moyers and Keith Olbermann and vote the way MSNBC tells them to.Out of touch?Sorry, like it or not,America is still center right.Did you happen to see the TEA parties a few days ago?It is the Left that is out of touch with reality.Bay Area "progressives",Hollywood elites, most of the media,New York city and New England Liberals;you are out of the mainstram,it is you that are out of step. There are tens of millions of Americans that share my opinions, not just a handful. And finally, yes indeed, many of the candidates that I voted for have won.For instance, ever hear about a fellow named Reagan?
