Hi, my family and i are looking to move out of california, and we were thinking about montana, can anybody help us on what part of monatna would be good?
And we are from a small town population is like 10,000 or something so we dont want something big. We are close by los angeles and there is no way for that.
So we want something not real big and with some options for jobs. Okay thanks.

Have you thought of asking in the Montana forum? I doubt too many people in California know much about Montana.

So you want a small town WITH JOBS? I'm not sure that makes sense.

Every time I ask that question I get burned with a response of "Oh, I work from home in my jammies..(pulling in $200K)...."

Walmarts or Internet home office are your small town job options.

Check out Kalispell, Montana. Be aware that the recession is affecting the Flathead Valley ( where Kalispell is located ) as well. The 2 biggest employers there have just recently issued massive layoffs. Quality of life of course will be better than the Los Angeles area though, providing you can make ends meet etc.

Default Moving to Montana

I lived in southwest MT for four years while in College. Depending on what you consider large, the largest City in MT is Billings w/about 100,000 including environs. Missoula, Bozeman, Helena are in the 50,000-60,000 range. I haven't checked but these are estimates. In any case, they're less than Billings. Missoula is more electic as the U of MT is located they're; liberal arts/law school etc. I was in Butte, 33,000. Get ready for the cold. Anywhere from -20 F or so (and lower) for extended periods of time; certainly 20 or below for much of the winter. Summers are short, winters are long. Snow is variable depending on where you live. Don't expect an overload of restaurants and services like here in CA. Doesn't matter to me, but if that's your bailywick, well..... Don't get me wrong, there are restaurants......and some good ones..... just not one on every corner......And slow yourself down.....This is not fast-paced So. Cal.or any other major City. Jobs? There is clearly not the plentitude of jobs like here in a large City.... and if you go up there and lose a job.....you're stuck looking for a job in an area where overall there are less jobs to be had, depending on what you do for a living. Depending on what you do for a living, I'd look at careerbuilder.com (los angeles times, search montana) or get a list of newspapers in the state and look at the classifieds to get a feel of the situation. Good luck.

I'm thinking of leaving too. There isn't any commonality amongst ex-Californians about where to go. You should discuss this topic with people living in the areas you may like to move to.

In other words, we are not leaving California together. We are leaving separately, to separate locations.

It's time for all of us to say goodbye one last time, and then go forth and multiply. Oops, that's God! Wrong situation!

In any case, we are alike only in that we are divided. We are all going somewhere else, and it's time that we depart and go our separate ways.

Good luck!

I'm sorry Dan, but we'll always have California!

I just gotta get out of this place. It's been getting too nutty for me for decades now, and now that I've evidently retired I have no career to keep me here. I wanna go some place quiet so I can have some peace for my final years. I can always get on the Internet when I want craziness.
