I lived in CO and have visited those other SW states. I would take Oregon over those other options hands down. Remember what comes along with all that rain - increbible beauty and more shades of green than will find anywhere. That is something you will never find in the dry desert of the SW. But different strokes for different folks.

To me this will never be broken but the way things should be:

Must agree with you, MtnSurfer. I'd take western Oregon, Washington, or British Columbia any day over the western "square" states. Texas is simply out of the question for a variety of reasons. Nothing personal, Texans.

That said, I might make an exception for Utah. I've always liked SLC and the people in Utah, generally.

Great pics, by the way!

Yeah MtnSurfer, but I like the desert. To each his own individual preference.

You can get a 4-bedroom house with a nice size lot for $250k. Just be aware of mosquitos in the summer!!!
We're considering Texas more and more everyday. We're looking more towards the Hill Country. Would you have left if it weren't for husband's job?

If you insist on Montana, check out Missoula, Kalispel. There are plenty of former CA wackos there. You might be able to find a bean sprout sandwich with guacamole. I saw a white buddhist in Missoula last summer. He just moved there from cali.

You also might look at northern ID. A lot more weirdos from cali there. Check out CDA (Coeur d'Alene)

If you must live in Texas, consider Dallas Ft Worth. With nearly 7 million people in the area, there is something for everyone. The weather is pretty good most of the year.

Good article. I don't have as much hope as the writer. I think we could be on the verge of becoming the next Michigan.
