Public agencies aren't going to shut down or go bankrupt. Also, I have a bit more faith in first responders to behave responsibly off the clock.

It's free. San Diego has decent coverage for testing. This might help if you ever need it. Also SDSU is quick and easy.
My son went to the State one. Hours wait. USD same. It's like the old food lines we used to hear about.

UCSF , my current healthcare provider offers free testing to all their patients......but, they have a questionnaire to determine if you should be tested. A COVID test is required before certain procedures and in that case, you are called to arrange a test

Columbia University study shows omicron ‘markedly resistant’ to COVID vaccines, booster shots
https://www.yahoo.com/news/columbia-...190100298.html

It's probably not worth panicking over from a public health perspective, but regardless it's possible the reassurance about booster shots helping is secretly more about calming people and taming Delta than it is about fighting Omicron.

Meanwhile, New York City has arranged for free N95s and free rapid testing kits for residents. Los Angeles needs to be ready to do the same when Omicron accelerates on this coast.

The last section of the article seems to make my point that it's time to worry about a variant that has Omicron's evasiveness and more damaging capabilities. As I've been saying, science is somewhat hit-or-miss and human behavior is the main thing people can control.

Now that I think about it, Los Angeles should distribute free test kits immediately, to reduce Christmas gathering spread. Will it? No. The mayor basically has tuned out.

"There are no out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing at a testing site. An insured person can get a COVID-19 testPDF when needed by any provider, in or out of their health plan network, at no cost. If you’re uninsured, the government pays for your test.

But there are some COVID-19 tests you do have to pay for:

At-home test kits
Some rapid result tests..."

LA has perhaps the most ineffective mayor out there. You should be glad he's going to India. Maybe you'll get someone who isn't a dud.

Already looked into that. My insurance will be a 50 dollar co pay each time.

Some good news. Turns out that, at least in South Africa, you arent 30% less likely to be hospitalized with Omicron vs. Delta. Youre 91% less likely to be hospitalized.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ave-much-lower

1.7% of those with diagnosed with Omicron were hospitalized in South Africa. At the same time in the Delta wave, that was 19%.
