If that is your measure of competence, you probably love California. I personally would not agree that locking down hard indicates a competent government. Lockdowns were lazy, broad brush type of thing. To me, strategic, targeted measures would have been more competent.

This is interesting...

Kaiser Permanente said Wednesday that 11 of its vaccinated Oakland Medical Center workers were among a cluster of East Bay COVID-19 cases linked to the omicron variant. The revelation comes five days after Alameda County health officials said they were investigating 12 local COVID-19 cases linked to a Nov. 27 wedding in Wisconsin, which one of the infected people had attended upon return from international travel, and that at least five were confirmed to have the omicron variant.

Kaiser said Wednesday that 11 of those 12 were its Oakland Medical Center staff, all of whom were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and had received booster shots. Alameda County health officials had said last Friday that five of the 12 were confirmed omicron variants, and on Wednesday, they confirmed a sixth.

You mean, not closing down the forests and oceans? What a revelation. It's almost like it makes common sense. I digress, this is California.

Try to go surfing and get tackled and handcuffed. Jam packed into a big box store? That's the smart way

I feel safer in this part of California than I would in Florida, but various holes in its COVID handling make it still not safe.... A soft lockdown is a lazy solution, and on this site I've been pushing for "strategic, targeted measures" for a more than a year....

One of those measures would be bringing back capacity limits, which never should have gone away. It's time to tell people that they shouldn't hold huge indoor weddings for the foreseeable future. They're like seeding events for an Omicron takeover of the USA. Plus, testing requirements for domestic flights.

The sooner the better.

The latest data shows were far better off with Omicron than we were with Delta and that Omicron takes over, not co-exists with Delta. Better more transmissible but more mild than almost as transmissible and way more severe illness.

Testing for domestic flights will never happen and as someone who has to fly twice a month Im one of those people who is very grateful for that. They would be far more likely to require vaccination for domestic flights but that wont happen either.

Tiffany in Independence Day.

It's already obvious that Omicron is significantly more transmissible than Delta.

People should know by now to never look optimistically at COVID-19.

That's incompetent government. I wonder if big cities could put in place vaccine mandates for train ridership. That in Los Angeles would keep some tourists from flying into town. Well, maybe subway only, because other trains extend beyond the county.

Wonder and wish in one hand and $hit in the other, see which one piles up quicker.

Wondering and wishing is just an extension of refusing to join the real world. There are certain things that have a zero percent chance of happening. Most of your wishlist falls into that category. Even if some of it may be for the better, it’s pointless to hope for it.

As for my remarks about omicron, who wouldn’t trade transmission for severity?

Surge of cases in CT

Quote:
"What we are seeing right in, in the increase in hospitalizations over the last two weeks ... that's not because of omicron. That's because of the delta variant that's still with us," he said.
Charmel said Monday that 91% of hospital beds in New Haven County were full, leaving 200 available. Influenza cases are also starting to add another "layer" of strain on hospitalizations in the region, and he urged people to get the flu vaccine as well.

If you'd ever met the tennis player, she's no hypochondriac. (And who's in bed with a cold, ever?)

Maybe now is not the time to be sitting shoulder to shoulder with multiple friends for hours. Go out to a meal with one or two people until this is over.
