You brought your sorry A$$ here voluntarily. Simply turn around and go back the exact way you got here. It's not rocket science. 3 million houses and apartments would fix this mess in a short amount of time.

The funny thing is some hardcore leftist are finally seeing the consequences of over regulation, statism, and Democrat policies.

Jerry Moon Beam Brown is finally on record saying he thinks "there are too many regulations" for housing developers in California.

Too bad he's a lame duck, and the guys set to replace him (Garcetti, Newsom, De Leon) will just double down on taxing developers up the wazoo and then wondering "Why aren't there more apartments and rentals for our illegal alien voting bloc?"

I'd like to see either a smart businessman or someone tough on crime run the city or state but that seems hopeless .

Our current Mayor told us to Thank criminals for their service ( serving jail time !) and we are seeing that's worked out . Crime skyrocketed .

Republicans can win elections in blue states on Crime. This is how Giuliani won in New York. It's a winning strategy.

I nominate Shaquille O' Neal, he would wreck Garcetti head to head in an election.

ON the subject, gentrification will not wipe the middle class out, taxes and cost will drive most of it away.

This is ............... normal and no ideology can fix it aside from true Communalism. No one owns anything and everyone owns everything. Beyond that it will be supply and demand and the desirability of an area. This is why very few people live in the middle of nowhere. Space becomes limited and costs go up. That is life. The problems are compounded when Gov't tries to fix it by passing laws that ........ simply raise the cost.

Ideology is at the root of these laws, not rational thinking that recognizes it will not get better. Is it fixable? How??? They can't make more land. Winning elections does not mean the victor has any idea how to fix something, they just (On both sides) say what they think the voters want to hear and they start that about a year before the next election and make grandiose promises, take "popular" stands and really have no idea how to fix anything. There is a reason that a "PHd" does not follow the name of a Politician.

CA will gentrify and the poor will cram into small houses and share rooms and beds and the Rich will enjoy the best places and the upper Middle Class will have it pretty good. Leaves minimal room for the Middle Class unless they already own a home.

The funny thing is people actually think the middle class is still here in California.

We are at 1980s home ownership rates with TWICE the amount of people.

California already chased most of the productive "middle class" out years ago. What you have left is tech workers, union members, and the super poor, and super wealthy. The rest are people barely hanging on looking for a good excuse to leave.

More ridiculous hyperbole from someone who doesn't even live here.

The middle class is not gone, just shrinking as a % of the population. They are also less likely to buy (not own as many still in CA do) homes in the future as prices are escalating beyond their ability to buy them.

I don't think it's just chasing people out. There is cashing in. In speaking to neighbors in their late 50s -- yes this is anecdotal, but still on point -- they begin to realize that their lowly tract house (manicured though it may be) can now garner 1.2m+ and they begin to seriously contemplate a move to a less expensive state.

This fits those who are not shall we say young any more. They are looking at retirement and the value of their home is a major asset which they can sell and enjoy a better retirement. For younger ones they either make enough to stay or realize they can't and must move to have a decent life.
