Bill would prohibit smoking inside of any apartment, condo or duplex:

Millions of Californians would not be able to smoke tobacco inside their own homes under new legislation that would raise the bar nationwide for fighting secondhand smoke.

No state ever has ventured into personal bedrooms and living rooms with its smoking restrictions, but California is going even further than that by targeting owner-occupied residences as well as rental units.

That's going to be unenforceable even if it actually passes.

I used to live above someone who smoked inside so much that it seeped into my apartment through the floor. I now live above someone who smokes on their patio below me, filling my apartment with smoke. Screw 'em.

I'd rather see it left up to landlords/management. Who would enforce it, the already financially strapped PDs? I can just imagine indignant morons calling 911 to report a cigarette smoker. "We're sorry. Due to heavy call volume, we can't attend to your call at this moment. Your estimated wait time to talk to a dispatcher is 78 minutes."

Nobody should have to smell second hand smoke, period. The smokers can smoke outside, if they choose. Us non-smokers have to breathe second hand smoke in our residences? Awful.

Unfortunately, going outside to smoke doesn't really fix anything in apartments, condos, or the tetris houses they build these days.

Who still smokes inside?

I've been smoking for damn near 23 years and I won't even consider smoking inside...

When I was looking for an apartment a couple of months ago I noticed that the ones in Glendale had a notation on it being a non-smoking property - not even in your own apartment. I don't know if it's every rental unit or not, but the apt. ads said something to the effect of "in accordance with city ordinance". I ended up in Burbank so that's all I know about it.

But you'll smoke under your neighbor's window.
