You're funny. I love California as the land of my birth, the one in which I primarily raised my children, the one in which I met my wife (both, in fact, but we won't talk about the first one) and the state for which I worked for 25 years which has afforded us a comfortable retirement where we chose to settle.

Now as to your inaccurate and bigoted remarks, we don't have many swamps in these here parts and the lake we live on has 800+ miles of shoreline and depths of up to 900+ feet. Hardly a swamp. By the way, "redneck" doesn't require hyphenation and refers to those who work the land. If you meant hillbillys then, yeah, we have some -- solid, down-to-earth folk, some of whom have summer teeth (summer yeller, summer black an' summer missin') who will give you the shirts off their backs unless you're too proud and stuffy to get to know them or you put on airs.

You do little but complain about California on these forums, your posts (mostly negative) on California far out-number your posts on your new home. Trying to convince yourself of something?

The swamp land comment is obviously exaggerated and I'm not referring to the state rather the Ozarks.

Redneck, like most words, has more than one meaning. You can find my usage in the dictionary, as well as the definition you are mentioning. And sure there are hillbillies too, you can add "and hillbilly" to my previous comment if it makes you happy.

And no, I'm not to proud to met them. But I would worry about them trying to hang me if I said anything I thought. You can try to present these folks and good and loving folks but I have enough experience with them to know otherwise. They may be friendly to people in their community that are like them, but not to others. Would they give their shirt to a gay guy, black guy, atheist guy, etc? Probably not.

But if you enjoy this environment and can fit in with the country-folk, that's great. Enjoy the swamp-land

I just cannot imagine the mayhem we would have if everyone was allowed to use fireworks all year long. In a humid state fine. Not here. That is not freedom or nanny state. Just common sense-you don't go light a cigarette will filling gasoline in your car do you? You certainly can light a cigarette in a different situation-it doesn't mean you lack freedom in the former-just using your common sense. Rules are for those who lack common sense and/or for those who may come from an area where the same activity poses no danger and so they are ignorant of the risks.
Sorry but the incident you gave as an example is not a good one:
#1. Incident caused by a 10 year old playing with matches.
If fireworks involved then he is too young to be buying/using them, at least unsupervised.
If fireworks not involved (which might be the case since it was not mentioned) then why even mention it in this discussion?

I guess the point I am trying to make is a kid can always play with matches and cause trouble regardless of the laws and regulations involving fireworks.
Those that lack sanity, rational thinking can and will always cause problems regardless of the law and regulations.
A nanny government that passes related laws and regulations pretty much only prevents rational, sane people from having fun. Those who are likely to cause trouble are also not likely to follow the rules and regulations.

Happy 4th of July people.....now go blow **** up before Ceece reports you to the cops.

Yeah! Me too. Maybe it's a due to age but the more I've seen some things change, the more I've wished they'd stay as they were -- not all by any means but many. I value the simpler times I've lived through.

Maybe you're currently "nomadic" because you've managed to annoy and p***-off people wherever you've lit fer a spell and aren't welcome anywhere.

By the way, the state is preponderantly mid-western and praire, not swamp. Jist thought that knowledge would hep ya sound less ignrant next time!

G'Day!

I mention , because a single kid playing with matches can burn down 38,000 acres and evacuate 15,000 people. Just one kid. Just imagine what a few million folks who can set off firecrackers can do. Wether you like it or not, we live in a very fire prone area. I have lived through several fires and have a few friends with ranchettes. Watching a wall of fire come down the hillside towards your friend's house is the most scary thing I have witnessed. I was actually there to help them evacuate their animals.

The local residents for the most part know of the danger. We do have millions of visitors to CA each year from many states where they may never encounter fires and it may never occur to them that it can be dangerous. It is best not to allow them-all it takes is one spark from some wayward cracker that didn't go in the right direction.

No, rather I'm not sure where I'd want to live. I should probably change that though, I've been back in California for a good 2 years now. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to stay in California or not.

And like I said, I was referring the Ozarks (which you list as your location) not the entire state of Missouri. I've been to Missouri a few times and am perfectly aware of what the state is like. The only worthwhile thing I could find to do when there was gamble on the boats in St Louis which a bunch of ghetto-folk (they were much nicer than the hillbillies that give away shirts in your neck of the woods).
