The people that are leaving CA for the reasons mentioned above, I don't blame you for leaving either.

If you're looking for solitude, then ND or SD is calling your name!
Like Fontucky, I was always a gun-loving, native Californian while I lived there. While I may have ended up a social moderate (not a bad thing to my mind) I was also, always a fiscal conservative and I never supported illegal immigration; quite the opposite.

I think you paint us all with an overly broad brush!

From what I hear, any type of real gun is illegal in Crummyfornia. What would you shoot me with? Your slingshot? Are those legal?

Perhaps I do stereotype Californians. But hey, I do enjoy California wines.

But it does seem they are resented in places like Montana, Idaho and Colorado because of that "I'm going to make this place more like California."

At least that's what my neighbors from Mesa, AZ have to say about Cali's. Don't know how they know about the other states.

I am a native. And its time to leave the nest and experience new places! Besides the typical: traffic, smog, over-priced everything, I just cant appreciate this state- not right now. While I dont think that i'll ever want to live here again, I think that with time ill be able to love the "great weather", "beautiful sunsets", and the "diversity of scenery". But until then, Alaska is my first stop!

Lots to love about Texas. Good BBQ. Castle law. No income taxes!

They are certainly different, but not in terms of being small peaceful towns that are affordable.

The taxes in California are pretty low for those, like retirees, that are not making that much. The high marginal income taxes are not going to be a factor for most retirees and Prop 13 makes the properties taxes rather cheap.
