So in other words, shift the money from essential public safety to non-essential feel good expenditures. Sounds about right for this crowd.

These things take priority, ya know. More hacks needed.

The council vote was split largely along racial lines. The five no votes were all from white members: Frank Baker, Gabriela “Gigi” Coletta, Michael Flaherty, Ed Flynn, and Erin Murphy. With the exception of Liz Breadon, the yes votes were all councilors of color: Ricardo Arroyo, Tania Fernandes Anderson, Kendra Lara, Ruthzee Louijeune, Julia Mejia, and Brian Worrell.

With all the anticipated Boston spice and fixings. Send to the Asian mayor for a tiebreaker!

You could also say the votes were between traditional liberals and far left collectivist socialists. The exception being Baker whom I would call more of a conservative.

No, it isnt. $4 million for "economic opportunity and inclusion"? Isn't that like the entire annual salary of over 50 average Boston taxpayers? Yes, it is.

The best "economic opportunity" that I'm currently aware of is an alarm clock. And they're cheap.

I know you're referencing the $4M, but the $31M is actually the salary of about 300+ people at $100K per year. The average Boston Police patrol officer earns roughly $70K base, so with benefits you are up around the ~$100K plus range that the city is paying to keep them on payroll. We hear a lot of chatter about blockbuster police salaries but those are only the cops who bust their humps with details and OT.

Yeah they just announced a current unemployment rate of 2.8% for the state. There are multiple jobs for anybody who wants one. FULL employment. The idea that the city needs to "spend" another $4 million for "economic opportunity" is as absurd as they come. Even the very progressive mayor had enough common sense to squash this.
