I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often at that location. What an awful area...

^And the location of the Star Market stabbing was reported incorrectly. It's in Lower Mills, not Mattapan. Very close to the Milton line, and also close to where there was a shooting on the corner (Gallivan and Dorchester Ave.) where firefighters were almost hit.

Will the Neponset River serve as an effective barrier and keep that behavior out of Milton and North Quincy? I lived in that area roughly 20 years ago and have fond memories of some of the neighborhoods on either side of the river.

I'm at the North Quincy Stop & Shoo several times weekly for years and have never felt uncomfortable. And I'm there after 10 pm to the midnight closing often. Not that there haven't been any issues, but I hope not many. Roche Brothers in Downtown Crossing seems safe, at least when I go a few times monthly.

JFK Star Market in Dorchester seems ok at night, the few times I go each year -- but I did see security confront a black male exiting about whatever issue last year. I feel comfortable at Star in Porter Square when I go near its midnight closing time; it's the only Star open past 12 pm.

MassNative71:

The Globe stated it was Wednesday about 6:18 pm. ShotSpotter counted six shots, an area near Ramsa.Park, while a police officer said around 20 shots. And that's near that new Residence Inn!

I was just in Boston for a few days. Downtown is pretty dead. Like the whole area between the common and South Station just ain't what it used to be. The crime and decline you sort of read about seems in line with what I saw.
