not a huge deal, but sounded kinda "cool":

BIG3 3-on-3 basketball league to play game at BJCC

BIG3, a professional 3-on-3 basketball league founded by actor, rapper and music producer Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz, has selected Birmingham as one of 14 cities to host games during its 2019 season.

The game will be played at Legacy Arena on July 6. Tickets go on sale on May 24. Other cities selected for league play includes Detroit, Charlotte, Dallas, Philadelphia and New York City, among others.

The league will also have its games aired live on CBS Television Network and CBS Sports Network.

It's the latest in a series of big wins for Birmingham in the pro basketball industry, with Birmingham recently playing host to an NBA exhibition game and the New Orleans Pelicans selecting the city to host a G-League development team in the city.

Is it? I know quite a few NBA fans and I don't know any that are excited at all about this 3 on 3 thing. Doesn't mean it isn't cool or won't be successful, but I tend to agree with the original post that it is 'cool' but 'not a big deal'.

Actually, it is. Many black basketball fans like myself would love to see more activities and events like this be hosted in Birmingham considering the large black population and its growing young black professional class.

Nobody is saying this is equivalent to getting an NBA team. But to be selected with the other cities, on TV, and butts in seats in a local arena are certainly not bad things. I agree it's "not a big deal" but it's a big deal for Birmingham right now and what they're trying to do/become.

Let's revisit attendance numbers after the fact and compare it to other events and we will see who was right.

This is fascinating.

Looking at the occupancy from the market potential study, I’m shocked by a lot of them. I would never have thought TJ Towers were at 94%, The Waites and Flats on 4th at 100%. The Pizitz is n/a but I’m pretty confident it’s ~99% full. Those numbers really show why so many projects have been announced.
