Wasn't really sure where to put this. What's the tallest building ever demolished in the city? Or the state for that matter?

This one is 9 stories. Hope its replacement is even taller.

UAB TownHouse to be demolished in May

Wasn't the Parlament Hotel taller than 9 stories? That was my first demolition to witness. DEFINITELY go to one if you ever get a chance.

Is that why the Sitar Indian restaurant closed? I was sad to see that go.

Correct. The good news is that Sitar is relocating to the same building as Moes, Waffle House, McAlister's, etc. I believe.

Oh good. I wondered why it closed, since it always seemed pretty busy.

Birmingham's tallest building to get a new name.

www.al.com/business/2019/04/birminghams-tallest-building-getting-new-name-as-wells-fargo-to-move.html

Wells Fargo is vacating downtown's tallest building. The good news is that WF will keep its local headquarters downtown in nearby Harbert Plaza. The vacated building will be renamed Shipt Tower.

The article explicitly states Shipt will maintain its current headquarters in the John Hand Building, but presumably they will be locating some of their operations in Shipt Tower (perhaps some of the 881 new jobs they are creating?)

In any case this looks like a win-win situation for everyone.

Agreed. From I can tell, WF had about 45k sq ft of space in what's now the WF tower. They're downsizing to 17.5k sq ft, but Shipt is backfilling the vacated WF space PLUS an additional 15k sq ft in the renamed Shipt Tower. So it should result in net office space absorption downtown of around 32k sq ft.

Not sure if Encompass Health (formerly HealthSouth) or Vulcan Materials will get there, but they've been steadily climbing. Regions holding steady (up 13 spots to #447):

Two Birmingham companies nearing Fortune 500 status

Would be a nice status symbol if both of them could break into the Fortune 500. If they were independent companies, Alabama Power would be in and Protective Life would be 540.
