Birmingham's Coca-Cola United takes over distribution rights in the motherland.
Quote:
The company announced Monday it has closed on its purchase of two production facilities in metro Atlanta as well as its expanded bottling and distribution territory in Atlanta and seven additional Georgia territories. That means if you are drinking a Coke in the Coca-Cola corporate headquarters, it’s due to a Birmingham company delivering it. - See more at: Birmingham

The new Marriot at the Empire building will be called The Elyton Hotel.

Elyton was the name of one of the area towns that predated Birmingham, and the Elyton Land Co. helped develop Birmingham in the late 1800s.

Yeah I thought it was a good choice. Good to bring that name back to some level of prominence and prosperity considering what it is thought of for mostly. And it will bring up the name of the town/company that predates and begat Birmingham.

Call it a happy accident. They had to come up with a name that matched the E motif along the top of the building anyway.

I like Elyton. Pays historical homage, still retains the sort of opulence extant in "Empire".

Btw, does anyone have paid BBJ access? There are two articles up this week about a new condo devlopment, and a new nightclub venue in Southside

The HTC clears another hurdle.

A previous historic tax credit program that was in place from 2013 to 2016 has been widely credited as a catalyst for downtown Birmingham’s building boom, but lawmakers controversially allowed the credit program to expire last year. That decision stalled a number of projects in Birmingham.
Yup, that about sums it up.

Great name, but does Birmingham really need another hotel? Not sure how to find this but is there a hotel rooms per capita metric somewhere out there?
