The unemployment rate in Deschutes Co. is right around 11% now (and not adjusted for season employment). So, it's a bit better than last year's 14%, but we still have quite a ways to go. It will depend on the type of job you are looking for. Some areas are fairing better than others in terms of employment.

So very articulate of you, StevePickering!

Like Delta said, it depends what type of expectations VirtualErik has. What type of job are you looking for VirtualErik?

While it is definitely hard to find a salaried/'real' job in Bend, it is not impossible, just tougher than most places given the less diversified/non-established economy, relative small size and competitiveness due to its national profile.....etc.

Just be realistic.

In December, you might be able to get hired at Mount Bachelor if you have ski talent. It's only good until the snow is over and then you are unemployed again.

I think maybe there is a new call center in Redmond and there is some computer stuff going on in Prineville. I don't know if any of those places are hiring.

You need to think about that getting by statement. If your heart is set on Bend you could be looking at years before a good paying job comes along, and phone center jobs last from a few months to a year ,,,,, Maybe. And then only if you have the personality. Many call center people feel lucky if they last a month or two.
