My family and I are planning on moving to the Bend area in the next 2 years. We are planning a trip this summer to Bend. We are a family of four and have a son with Autism and one with Adhd and are looking for a nice place to raise them. We are very involved in the school and in church as well. I volunteer several days a week in the school so we want to get involved in the community. As a mother I am concerned how my family will be welcomed and accepted into the Bend area. We live in California, the programs for Autistic children are for the most part closed. We want our children to have a good life where they will have access to the necessary programs. Any suggestions as to where we should visit would be greatly appreciated. We are a loving family and enjoy spending time with our family and friends. We are also looking for a good Bible based church. We are born again Christians and want to visit some churches also, a good youth group is a must. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

What attributes of Bend put it on your short list?

Consider visiting Westside Church. Some kids dig it.

The Bend area offers the most for special needs children. Specifically autism, Eugene area was the next. We want our boys to have the best chance possible.

You need to be looking at Eugene.

The Bend district offers an ABA program for K-3rd kids with significant ASD. For kids who don't qualify for this program, the neighborhood school's life skills program serves them. Eugene, being a bigger district, was trying things like a middle school program for kids with Aspergers--at least in the past (I haven't kept up with their programs). And as you know, it'll help immensely that you're involved with your children's education and in the school.

I've heard Westside Church does outreach/special programs for kids with special needs.

Bend Learning Center

Westside is a Foursquare Church and may not be for many mainstream Christians, but I hear good things about their programs clear over here in the Valley.
