Hello!

My family and I are very excited to be moving to Bend. My wife will be attending the massage school there. We have 4 kids (4, 6, 8, 10) so we're particularly interested in what people's opinions are of the different grade schools.

We'll be renting so we have some flexibility but I was very curious if there are certain schools we should avoid? And also if there are any we should really try to aim for?

Thanks so much for your comments and suggestions!!

Overall, I think people would agree that the school with the best reputation is High Lakes Elementary which is on the NW side of town in a subdivision called Northwest Crossing. A second school, which opened just this year, and is also on the NW side is Miller Elementary. Several of the teachers from High Lakes went over to Miller when it opened. A third elementary to consider is Highland School which is on the west side close to downtown. It is a charter school and might be hard to get into. The Bend LaPine School District just realigned the boundaries for the schools so you should go onto their website to see what neighborhoods fit into which elementary school. I don't think any of the elementary schools are bad here, it just that the ones I've listed often get the highest marks.

Welcome to Bend!

Default Response to Bend Oregon Schools

Thanks for the input!

My wife and I walked around High Lakes and were very impressed! We read someone else's review talking about how they could move anywhere in the Country and they chose that school for their kids. Our biggest challenge is finding a way to get in those boundaries that we can afford

But it also sounds like all the elementary schools do a good enough job. I suppose that would be my other questions. Are there any schools that should be avoided if possible?

Thanks again for the feedback!

The lowest rated elementary school is Ensworth on the NE side of Bend, but it still exceeds state averages (though Oregon schools overall ae not close to the highest rated nationally). The link below should be helpful:

I like the Waldorf schools. Yes, you have to pay for them but I think its well worth it. I love a Childs Garden for younger children.

All of the schools are fine, as long as the parents pay attention to make sure their child is doing the work and behaving in class.
