The pre season conventional wisdom on the Giants was...

Could contend if:
Lincecum has another Cy Young year
Sandoval sustains his production
Posey turns out to be as good as expected
Bumgarner is ready for the big show.

They missed on the first two, but after May, the other two came through bigtime.

Sabean remade the club on the run, first blending in the rookies, then picking up some big contributors ..Burrell, Ross and Lopez. Gotta tip the hat to Brian, great performance this year. And another tip to Bruce Bochy who seemed to make all the right moves for the last two months.

When I lived in SF in the 1960s as a kid, many of us would take the bus down to Candlestick park during summer vacation and buy bleacher seat tickets out in windy center field. Our idol Willy Mays was just on the other side of the fence, chasing down the flyballs and hits into center. I'll bet Willy feels good today.

They kicked out Zito, the $136 million man right before the playoffs, lol!

We never really got his hitting going either and still won it all.

Candlestick Park was very cold at night in summer. Do you remember the 1962 World Series when it came to game 7 at the stick?

Boring enough to beat the Phillies?
