I agree they probably have a better shot passing AZ, despite a lower elimination # than the WC race - this is due only to the H2H aspect where they can control their competitions results
however, the d'backs have 3 games left versus the giants, 3 versus the dodgers and 1 vs the pirates .... all of these are home games
if they take 2 from the giants they win the division
if they take 1 game from the giants they only need to win 1 of the other 4 games - or have the giants lose 1 more game this season
if they get swept by the giants they would need any combination of 3 wins in their final 4 games or 3 giants losses over the rest of their schedule ......
the giants have virtually no room for error and would still need a break or two
if AZ wins tonight against the Pirates that means the giants must sweep AZ to stay alive
