In the past, I've always had 2 cars. One for commuting one for play:
Here are the combinations:
COMMUTING / PLAY:
92 Peugeot 505 wagon / 92 Peugeot 405mi16
99 Subaru Forester / 96 Saab 900 se convertible
01 Subaru Forester /04 MINI Cooper S (then replaced with 05 MNI Cooper S conv't)
Then I went down to 1 car:
Saab 9-5, after the dealer screwed up my timing belt, I sold a few months after the incident and bought a new 2009 Subaru Impreza GT. I am sticking with one. This one fills my wants - turbo power, sunroof, seat warmers (for NH winters), AWD...
The question of this topic has nothing at all to do with hobby expense cars or otherwise. It's about how many cars YOU NEED FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE! To which I still say...ONE!
To which many of us have said we need more than one!
Always wanted one of those.....I at least got to take one for a test drive once and it was a real blast. It's a shame Peugeot didn't hang on long enough in the US to sell us the 406 Coupe.

Well there you go. YOU need one. I need more. I certainly can't get the pleasure out our truck, that is used for various tasks, that I can out of our AM DBS. And since I don't want to drive that as a daily driver, then I need my Audi R8 for my daily driver.
It is said that....... "A fool and his money are soon parted". So it is with cars............
Well I don't have to already say that you're on the losing side of this topic, but also a fool lets his money sit in the bank and never spends a cent of it on something he likes.
So if such fool wants more than one vehicle, so let it be.
I think most here have already said they need one, maybe 2 to live comfortably. Some just have more than that because they want to.

Agreed. My Mom use to say: " A hearse pulls no U-haul"!

That is right. I've got a great aunt that is 92 years old. Won't spend a dime of her own money but wants everyone to buy and pay for things for her. Says she is saving all of her money for when she is old and might need it.
Way I see it: As long as I am taking care of all of my obligations, pay my bills on time, give to what I want, have my retirement taken care of, kids well taken care of, parents taken care of, put money in savings, IRA's, investments, etc........ then the disposable income that is left over after all of that I can spend any way I see fit. If it is on a new car or ANOTHER car, GREAT! An awesome vacation - GREAT! More clothes/shoes - GREAT! Something for the house - GREAT! Whatever we may want.
1972 Chevrolet Caprice Kingswood Estate wagon is a classic car I have wanted for a long time. I had to pay a fortune and its going to cost me a fortune to restore it, but I cant seem to part with it.
Always liked these...
Big enough to haul 4' x 8' sheets of plywood... take the kids and their friends to the ball game and tow a substantial trailer... and mechanical parts are plentiful
Being a child of the 1950's I know for personal use no one "needs'' more than one car.
If you own more than one vehicle for personal use then you got way more money than you can use sensibly.
I guess you need to hit your head more often so maybe you can have a clearer head. Some people do have a small car to save gas, makes sense, and a larger vehicle to haul stuff and more people when necessary and that also makes sense. So it also makes sense to have more than one hammer for different uses as with screwdrivers and the same with cars. Does that make sense to you? To me it does.
You have a great day.
