How many cars do you need for yourself?

Me, I'm mostly a 2 car person, I need a minivan to haul stuff and then a fuel efficient car to save on gas. A 3rd sports car is just a luxury! And that's the way I am now!

Minivan - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport [decked out with all options, bought used in summer 2006]

Fuel Efficient Car - 1999 Honda Civic HX, bought Nov 2007. Got me a best 51.2 mpg hwy from Chicago to Memphis at 70 mph!

Toy car - 1993 Mazda MX6 LS V6 all options. Bought in 1997 as my main car and it fun and fast. If I had my last NASA job still I would have replaced this car with a BMW 330Ci. But no job so no BMW so I just toy with the Mazda uninsured.

So how many cars do you need, what's your logic in having them, and what do you have?

It's also my logic to have at least two vehicles so that in case one breaks down you still can get to work in the other vehicle.

I only buy used cars and would never lease. The only new car I would ever buy is the Toyota Prius.

Man, my cars are old! I feel poor now...

I would settle for one for each day of the week!

I like your logic on at least 2 and that you have a toy.

I guess you could say I have 2 drivers and 2 toys.

Yours are not old, good sir, mine average 24 yrs. old.

My gf has a reliable car too.

Being a child of the 1950's I know for personal use no one "needs'' more than one car.

If you own more than one vehicle for personal use then you got way more money than you can use sensibly.

the only new car or trucks I would look at would be a 99-03 F-350 superduty with the 7.3 liter powerstroke and ZF-6 speed and with my f250 aging it is quite possible I may be looking at getting one sooner rather than later and a 05-08 corvette Z06 which is just pipe dream seeing as the GTO is paid off and it would be stupid get rid of it unless I found a REALLY good deal on a used low milage Z06 which I doubt will happen anytime soon

Doesn't take a lot of money to have fun with cars. No more that a boat, or traveling, etc.

For some of us cars = recreation, as well as utility.

Plus I live in the mountains, I need a 4WD truck to haul firewood, do dump runs and get around when we get lots of white stuff. And I have a fuel efficient car for the rest of the trips. Those two meet my needs.

The others are recreation.

I like to have at least a beater 4X4 truck for basic daily driving/doing dirty jobs....and then some sort of a fast car for when I want to get cleaned up and go somewhere looking nice. But then with children a kiddie hauler is also of necessity.
