My brother wants a new car and has narrowed it down to these. I know, I know! I told him he'd be better off buying something gently used, but he insists on brand new. He is buying it with his own money, so it's not like he is spoiled, just young and foolish. Anyway, which one of these 3 gems would you recommend to him?

I personally do not like any of them, but I would chose the Versa out of those three.
The Versa will give him more usable space. The styling of the Hyudai Accent two door looks 100 times better than either the Aveo or the Versa (Renault). Co-worker has one and she loves the stereo and handling.
Tell him to look at a 2000-2005 VW Jetta TDI.... He could pick up one of these pocket the $4k or more he would save. Then he could enjoy 48-50mpg in something that is somewhat stylish and can fit 4 adults safely.
Yeah I'm biased... I admit I'm a diesel dork.

Used is out of the question in his car search. If I was stuck buying an econobox I'd go with the Versa or Accent.
Whichever one I could get the best deal on as a 2-door hatch with 5-speed. Wait, don't tell me, he can't drive stick.
I would lean more towards the Nissan, with the Hyundai in 2nd place. Not certain why the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris are not on his screen, similar cars, maybe a little more $ but good cars.
You simply didn't beat Little Brother up often enough as you guys were growing up. Shame on you.

How reliable are cars you are describing?
I am in the used car market myself...
The Accent with the slight win here over the Versa. If the Versa wasnt so butt-hideously-fugly, it would have my vote.
