I was on the freeway today and on the oncoming lane, I saw tons of fire trucks and lanes blocked... then as I got closer, I saw a Chevy Aveo on fire... it was still smoking, but they had the fire out for the most part, but the front bumper/headlights and trunk/taillights were the only parts of the car not burned up. One of the local TV stations were there. It was way over, but I could still smell it. Shew!

Well, I discounted it as a gas leak or an electrical short, but seemed odd for a newer car, but not totally out of the question. Anyway on the late news, they finally told it... the news anchor said that apparently somehow, "fireworks" had ignited in the car and next thing they knew, the car was blazing. No further details were mentioned, but either some moron was goofing off and lighting them in the car for a joke, or somehow the heat from the sun did it, but that seems not so likely?

Either way, if you haul fireworks, this should be a lesson to BE CAREFUL unless you want your car to go up in ball of flames!

Its obvious some idiot lit fireworks in the car. At least it wasnt worse such as injuries, death or creating a collision amongst other cars.

Oh my what a tragic story! We should ban the personal transportation of fireworks! What if a bottle rocket shot out and hit a child in a minivan in the eye!?

I saw a car buring a couple of nights ago too (near Hannibal, MO) and, believe it or not, fireworks were shooting out of the flames! The car was totally engulfed when I drove by and police were starting to arrive. I have no idea if anyone was injured or killed. Tennesseestorm is so right, it is a real hazard. Be careful everyone!
