If I was looking now, I’d consider the 2021 hybrid Elantra. Gas didn’t get cheap here like it did in Ohio so I’d look at hybrids. Don’t get me wrong, dollars to donuts, the 2020 was a fantastic deal for everything you get tech and power wise. I don’t think I could get a better deal.
This 2019 Hyundai Veloster R-Spec 6-speed gets 33-34 mpg with the stick model on the freeway. That's pretty hard to argue with. I know the quirky hatchback style doesn't suit everyone. I love it.
...I'm approaching retirement and would consider this car my last car...
In addition to it being your last car, is it your *only* car?
One thing to consider: a car's ergonomics & comfort as we all age. The sporty car that fits like a glove when we're younger isn't usually so comfortable once we're retired. If it is a 2nd car, no problem.
That being said, it really is a great looking sporty car!
