Curious if police pull people over for this. I notice many of these vanity or dealership brackets can actually hide the name of the state and the registration tag on the license plate. I never use these brackets, but my wife has one.

Depends on what kinda mood the cop is in. Just take it off, you do not need to give free advertising for the dealership

Tried to convince the wife she didn't need her favorite college football team bracket, but that was a waste of time. She's a big LSU fan. She likes to tell people she went to LSU, Louisiana State Unemployment. Not the real name of the unemployment office, but the joke works anyway. She suffers everyday from spinal pain so I'm more likely to give in to those little things she wants to make her happy.

It really depends on the cop and the state laws.

In CA, I got pulled over several times in one week because by trailer hitch ball blocked part of the plate.

Here in GA, my tag is partially hidden by the bumper, nothing I can do since the tag goes on the bottom. Out here, cops dont seem to go after petty stuff like that unless you give them a reason to.

In any state, if its fully covering the little sticker, that may be an issue since that is the first visual of a legal or not tag. Most states also color code their stickers so a partial blockage may not be a big deal.

It's a Big No No in Arizona, Victim.

Just another NOT WORTH THE RISK type of thing. If a cop is suspicious of anything about you, your vehicle or your actual driving performance, the limited view of the license plate gives him the right to stop which he may not have otherwise.

If your wife is so impressed with her LSU status . . . how about a decal in the rear window?

Texas changed its rules concerning license plate frames a few years ago. They CANNOT obstruct any legally important parts of the plate.

I'll add that I despise most license plate frames. Never use them. I will never ever ever use a plate that advertises for the dealer unless they pay me to.

When I lived in Texas, my employer gave out vanity license plate frames that proudly proclaimed who we worked for... a big computer firm.

It only took a few months for most of those plate frames to disappear. If it wasn't for the fact that people kept getting stopped by the po-po for having obstructed plates, it was the cars getting broken into by people hoping there was a computer inside they could steal.

The law in NC says you can not hide portions of your tag...I wonder if the cops actually enforce it. I have seen more than one truck with a texas or other border state tag on it that was conveniently covered in "farm mud" so you could make out most of the tag. I wonder if that is a violation. Most likely it is not...go figure

In NJ is an obstructed plate and can get you stopped and fined. From the prospective of a police officer it's frustrating to stop a vehicle from out of state with a partially obstructed plate and it's a plate from a state that you don't recognize. When you call your stop in to the dispatcher that's a real important piece of information they need to know. What state is the plate from. I believe years ago Georgia did not issue temporary tags. I think the dealer would put the dealers advertisement plate in the place designed for the license plate and that sufficed until the actual plate was issued.
